No, compartments, no please!!!!
It is annoying to share that tiny space with some other people during long periods. Last time I suffered one was recently at an InterCity train in Italy. I was seating by the window and everytime I wanted to go to the toilet I had to bother everyone. Additionally one of the passengers had a severe cold and kept on sneezing all the time. Really disgusting honestly.

Open room coaches!

It is also I believe the most expensive at a cost of 2,2 billion euros for 90km of railway. Some 23-24 million euros per km. Similar in cost to the Madrid to Valladolid HSR, although this one will have tunnels built to lower standards, IE two track tunnels with small cross sections.

It's not like the deal is set in stone (you could say it's bound to be derailed, *pun intended*). A good-faith declaration to go on holidays in good peace of mind, but interesting, anyways.

When is the north-south HSR tunnel due to open? IRJ just says in the new few months.

Will they have it ready for the European rail timetable switch day (2017.12.10)?

Certainly not.

The latest announced by Fomento is the end of the works in the first quarter of 2018.
We must remember that the new tunnel passes below Atocha without possibility of stopping during, probably, the next ten years.

This informative study is old, in 2015 there was another for 1.536 M € and the current one has not yet been published.
It involves an investment of 1,374 M € (Alternative Center, 15.65 per km) or 1,241 M € (alternative west, 13.68 per km).
