There's no loss to KL here. Foreign finance without the need to issue PSO subsidies.
For me the disturbing thing is NADI's stature of being a major defense contractor. They should have done more to contribute to Malindo's growth.

I agree, but I tend to believe there is interference from the other government ministries supporting MAS. It was the same when Temasek Holdings briefly held equal percentage stakes in Tigerair and Jetstar Asia, the latter often complained that Temasek was inhibiting their growth. It was believed that this controlled growth was one of the several factors that killed AirAsia Singapore.

Malindo starts flight to JB, Medan from Ipoh today
17 OCTOBER 2014 @ 3:41 PM
http://www.nst.com.my/node/43822

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s hybrid airline, Malindo Air, commenced its passenger services from Ipoh, Perak, to Johor Baru and Medan, Indonesia, beginning today.

This is following the launch of the Subang-Ipoh thrice weekly flights earlier this month, it said in a statement.

Malindo Air is currently offering promotional fares of RM70 for the Ipoh-Medan all-inclusive one-way trip while the Ipoh-Johor Baru fare was as low as RM79 all-inclusive for a one-way trip.

The frequency of flights to Medan and Johor Baru are daily and four times weekly respectively.

Malindo Air chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said the new flights to Johor Baru and Medan were expected to encourage more passenger movement at the newly upgraded Sultan Azlan Shah Airport.

"The introduction of flights from Ipoh is part of our strategy to enhance our route network in Peninsula Malaysia.

"Ipoh has plenty of potential when it comes to tourism, particularly ecotourism and medical tourism. Moreover, we felt connecting Ipoh and Medan will drive tourism in both cities and spur economic development at the same time," he said.

For more information, visit www.malindoair.com to make bookings online and smartphone users can download the new Malindo Air app on Google Play.

Malindo Air memulakan operasi di Melaka

MELAKA 5 Nov.

Instead of asking when the flight should be ceased, a compliment should be given to them for taking a risk by opening new routes. They deserved to get a thumbs up bcoz they have guts to connect two secondary state and serve the communities. And what not, promoting business relations between 'em.

Malindo begins flights to Penang, Pekanbaru from Malacca
5 NOVEMBER 2014 @ 5:24 PM
http://www.nst.com.my/node/49822

MALACCA: Malaysia's hybrid airline, Malindo Air, has launched its five-weekly flights from the Malacca International Airport, Batu Berendam here to Penang and Pekanbaru, Indonesia.

Chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said the flights, using the 72- ATR-72-600 aircraft, were on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursday, Friday and Sundays.

The Penang-Malacca flight, which takes one hour and 20 minutes, leaves at 10.10am and returns at 3.15pm while the Malacca-Pekanbaru flight, which takes one hour and five minutes, leaves at 11.50am and returns at 12.50pm.

Speaking to reporters after receiving passengers on the inaugural Penang-Malacca light here today, Chandran said the initial flights were over 90 per cent full.

Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron was on hand to greet the 70 passengers upon arrival at 11.30am.

Chandran said the Penang-Malacca air fare was RM79 one way while the Malacca-Pekanbaru flight cost RM70 one way.

He said Malindo Air planned to increase the frequency of both flights to six times weekly within the first six months due to growing interest in Malacca as a health tourism destination and a world heritage site among Indonesians, particularly those from Pekanbaru.

Malindo Air also plans to introduce the Malacca-Kota Baru on November 21, he added.

Malindo Air has 18 planes, comprising 11 ATR-72-600 and seven Boeing 737s.-- Bernama
