I'm hoping that it will become a boardwalk, like along akerbrygge - i can't believe they'd do such a nice job of paving and landscaping the rest and just leave that with raw asphalt...

meanwhile some more images...

skatepark in use!

Call me crazy but I like the raw asphalt. Gives it a bit of a rough look that works with the preserved edge.

Let's hope this bridge's formwork holds when they start pouring the concrete.

You are not that crazy... I like also the asphalt here. Great for biking, skating, rollerblades, barnevogner and so on. Fits in with the trees planted.

Aker brygge boardwalk also has asphalt. It works when it isn't so alone as in Sørenga. Combined with wood, trees, stone, furnitures etc it can look great

Hello.Just want to leave a comment to say how awesome this development is. Maybe you should promote it a bit more in the international development forums. I did not know about this project until someone mentioned it in another thread over there. cheers and greetings from Germany

Hey there, and thanks for the kind words. Hafencity is a fantastic project, and the two surely share the spirit of new urbanism.

I believe both Operakvarteret and Tjuvholmen have been promoted very well.. however, Fjordcity as a whole probably haven't because it's simply more natural to talk about the sub-projects, since they have different identities and are located in different areas. More "promotion" to come when larger parts are done and the development gets more wholesome. Fjordcity is still a big construction site except for Tjuvholmen.

---

On to something else entirely:

Olav Thon observation made today at about 1355 in Operakvarteret. Specifically at Stasjonsallmenningen between KLP and Isfjellet.

DNB C now appears to be done from the outside (I mean, it looks done also inside when viewing from outside). I wonder if it has been delivered to DNB? Haven't seen the elevator go up yet.. Can't wait to have ice cream and cappuccino, or whatever they will serve, at the top.

Akerselva can now technically be observed between DEG and Operagata. Pretty cool how the excavators stand in the middle of the river just digging..the river will obv move further east in the future.

Bicycles observed parked at the new racks next to MAD, jamfør previous discussions. Generally a lot of activity in Operakvarteret, which is great to see. Challenge will be after the working hours..

Operahuset is really yellow nowadays. I hope the washers that were at work today succeed in cleaning the marble. Probably doesn't help for the yellow colour though, if it's the bi-product of a chemical reaction (oxidation..).

Glass parts of the Isfjellet "crack" mostly done. Looks decent, some nice angles and curves, but could be a little less subtle.

Super much activity in DEG. Large parts of the tram foundations are in place if I understood what I saw, and works are getting close to surface level for the sidewalk and lanes. Plenty of small, yellow dampveivalser that were running over some really big rocks. Didn't really see the point of that, but I guess they know what they were doing..

Last time I was at the opera (a few weeks ago) they had cleaned the flat parts of the floor. It appeared almost as new. I was under the impression that they would do the roof in the same way.

About the "completetion" of Fjordcity, I think it makes sense to see Råhusplassen and Aker brygge as parts of it. Also Akershusstranda has gotten a great facelift the last 6months, and appear more now as a natural part of the city sea-front. I don't think we have to wait long for advertising a more "complete" Fjordcity

New beach outside the opera. Will be completed in 2015, after midgardsormen is done in the area.

That surely looks great. That's how it should have been along Sørenga waterfront too!
