Hi, don't know if it has been posted before, but here is a Ford Sierra TV ad from the 1980s featuring the Central Motorway, Cale Cross House and the Tyne Bridge.

North East-shot film 'The Liability' gets premiere this week
By John Lowdon, Sunday Sun, 5th May 2013 ![]() Jeremy Middleton, director of the film The Liability THE NORTH EAST Premiere of 'The Liability' takes place in Newcastle this week. Entertainment Editor Gordon Barr meets the men behind the road movie. They once worked together marketing soap brands, now two North East pals are hoping to clean up themselves, in cinemas worldwide. Film producer Richard Johns and investor Jeremy Middleton have teamed up for the first time in decades to bring the North East to the world - with a helping hand from Hollywood star Tim Roth. Their first film together, The Liability, gets its premiere in Newcastle next week and features famous regional landmarks from Teesside to Northumberland. The road movie is released nationwide on May 17, but gets its first screening at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle on Wednesday. Produced by independent production company Corona Pictures and supported by investors in the region, including Middleton Enterprises and Northstar Ventures, The Liability is the story of a young guy Adam, played by Jack O’Connell, who only wants to become a hitman, and an older man, Pete, played by Tim Roth, who only wants to retire as one. With shades of Get Carter, it is described as a thriller and a darkly comic portrayal of a son looking for a father. The film was shot entirely in the North East and locations include Dunstanburgh Castle, on the Northumberland coast, the Port of Blyth, Ryhope pumping station, Hartlepool, Darlington, Morpeth, Seaton Carew and Hexham. Not sure how this relates to the North East, but Gilbert is talking in a geordie accent about his love for football and Newcastle United.

Skinheads v Hairies
Great documentary I think I remember seeing originally.
The Great Mike Neville as voice over. I remember going to the matches in the 70's (Leazes Ender) and there were always battles going on with different skinhead crews fighting each other and skins against hairies as well as violence against the Polis if they dared to ventured into the crowd. They talk about poverty now but they were primitive times back then! |

That's a great find, Ken O'Heed. I remember seeing that when it was first screened. I think the "Throckley Hairies" may also have been known as "Blackburn's Gang" and used to rule the roost in the Gay Trooper.

Skinheads and hairies, I do remember older people saying at the start of the seventies that skinheads occasionally kicked off against hippies and other longhairs. However, by 1972 skinheads were very much the minority as nearly all teenagers had long hair and being a skinhead was seen as being an outsider. The cult seemed to largely die off for a few years in the seventies.
What I do remember are the far more violent skinheads in the early eighties with their boots, fascist badges and bomber jackets. Quite often you would hear chants of sieg heil in the street at night. |

To commemorate the one year anniversary of the culvert that collaped in newburn, radio Newcastle are doing lots of features on tomorrow's shows about Newcastle's secret streams and hidden culverts. I'll be on sometime between 10 and 12 talking about the byker culvert, why it's there and why it's such and important piece of the ouseburns industrial history.
