Bangalore Traffic Police posted this picture yesterday and said it was BWSSB work going on on Cunningham Road. Why is the road being dug up when it's a TenderSURE road and the drainage is under the footpath? Also, why was it necessary to dig it up so soon at all?

DH: Parking slots may be reserved for women on Church Street

How does this help?
I understand women are disadvantaged in our society in many ways, but is proximity of parking from a store/restaurant/office in Church street really one of the reasons?

I guess TENDERSURE roads are the case where theory and practicals are completely different.

They promised one thing but delivered entirely another thing.

If you remove parking along all the streetss like this and do not provide alternatives., the only stores that remain open will be the ones in malls.

I don't understand the point. We need to be reserving parking spots for disabled people and not based on gender

Ridiculous, next why not have separate roads for women, separate footpaths for women for safety reasons and finally separate infrastructure for women!!!

Instead of this idiotic election gimmick, a competent government should consider parking space rights and charges based on occupancy of the vehicle, especially for four-wheelers. Single driver/single passenger cars can be charged higher rates than 2+ occupants.

After tripping on potholes, BDA opts for TenderSure for its new layouts

DH: BDA opts for TenderSure for its new layouts

Quote:
The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) seems to have learnt a lesson from the the city's bad roads. The authority has decided to develop the roads of Arkavathy and Nada Prabhu Kempegowda Layouts on the lines of TenderSure roads and has invited tenders for this.

The BDA's engineering team has taken this decision after assessing the potholed city roads over the last two months and the trouble citizens faced.
"We have observed that roads developed on the block style (TenderSure) do not open up when it rains. Though they are costly, they need little or no maintenance. Since the layout is being developed from scratch, it will be cheaper to lay such roads compared to redoing an existing road. We have also decided to use this technology in all layouts and road works," P N Nayak, engineer member, BDA told DH.

He added: "BDA has decided to provide all basic infrastructure and utilities henceforth. We are laying all water and electricity pipelines and cables, so creating ducts is very easy and helpful. This will ensure that roads are not dug open by contractors or other departments to give connections to homes."

Earlier, the BDA used to hand over the works to Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Bangalore Electricity Supply Corporation Ltd to execute the works. But it has been observed that the BDA is being blamed for delays by these agencies. Hence, BDA will implement all the work and will complete the Kempegowda Layout in one-and-a-half to two years, another BDA engineer said.

In case of Arkavathi Layout, 30% of civil works have been completed and a deadline of 18 months has been set. For Kempegowda Layout, tenders for water supply, sanitary, sewage treatment plants and electricity have been invited.
