"Air Force Club (or Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya) really needs this new modern stadium because the old one (Al-Shaab, built in 1966) could not support the thousands of fans who climbed the gates everywhere to attend every match of their favourite club.
The old stadium will be used for the city's least popular teams.

The definitive name of the stadium is "Al Shohada Stadium" and this decision was taken by the Ministry of Youth and Sports as a tribute to the martyrs of the Tishreen Revolution in Iraq.
This is a proper, 21st century, football-only stadium. Well done to Iraq.
