Hopefully we could have an independent rail authority or corporation. The same way that the Central Bank operates. They are professionals in their field and the governor has a fixed term of 6 years.

These should be manned by Civil, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, and Mechanical Engineers.
Non-political appointees but career qualified technical civil servants with proper pay grade. They should also factor in experience in the field, not just diplomas.

Guess what? sino gumawa ng implementing rules ng anti distracted driving act? a group of lawyers.
This I do not understand. I've always wondered why these agencies are headed by lawyers. Then we have ex-military men in Customs and DENR. People do think that if you are a lawyer you are high mighty. Dito nga lang sa Pinas uso ang "Atty. xname"

As for the new escalators and elevators. Finally! It's about time.

That was a long but very informative meeting. Usec Chavez is really awesome and I feel quite confident that our rail systems will be taken care off under his watch (and there are many on the way!!!). Grabe talaga itong Marlo dela Cruz...the sheer influence he had on the PNoy administration in winning lucrative contracts by underqualified companies. And there was an instance where Atty. Mercado (Busan/Buri lawyer) and Senator Grace Poe had an ugly confrontation (i.e. bastosan). The way the Buri won the contract and the way they are justifying their f*ck ups...sheesh!

No wonder the Philippines is struggling significantly in developing, implementing, and maintaining high-profile infrastructure projects. A lack of planning vision, incompetent and incompatible officials, too much leakage and corruption, favoritism and nepotism... when will I ever see an ultra modern transportation network that benefit, not just those who built and maintain them, but also for all Filipinos? The current transportation system is a mess that seriously needs renewal and a management revamp.

It seems that instead of transportation making journeys easier and more convenient, nagiging perwisyo at matinding gastos lang. Dapat nang palitan ang kultura ng infra and transportation management sa atin, no matter how long it takes.

For those that missed the Senate Hearing or don't want to watch the whole thing, here is a good summary...

Sa report na napanood ko, ang lifespan lang daw talaga nung escalators is 10 years, and ginagamit na sila for 13-14 years. Hence, the need to replace all units.
