They really should trip those pavements/islands and replace the half-arsed grass with gravel and trees or something. It makes the area look cheap.

I'd love to see the buildings being modernized, as well as the construction of a few new and taller ones

Considering the actual CBD will never really get a lot of height, I wonder if Bellville as a skyscraper haven would be feasible?

In a grandiose plan for greater Cape Town, i'd like to see Bellville become the new financial CBD for the metropole, where height restrictions don't apply- like a lower Manhattan or L.A. The city is central with great connectivity.
The railway yards (circled) could be removed, where the city's future Olympic stadia could be build.

Using google earth historical imagery you can see the tygerfalls development go from nothing to a huge apartment complex in 4 years.

Wow! I have never seen the station area so clean in a long long time! I am still amazed how this area fell into disrepair in such a short period of time during the mid 2000's.

Great photo. My dad use to work in the hospital in the background. I remember going to the top floor and admiring the Bellville skyline.
