I keep lauding, here and elsewhere, the splendour of that Hills Fig as I fear it is for the chop with the sensitive souls who plan roads as that notorious intersection of Bourke with Lachlan, then a few metres further, McEvoy, is the perfect dogleg bottleneck. The plan is to rationalise the two sets of lights into one intersection by lopping off a swathe of the Dahua/Central Workshops site and a corresponding swathe at the end of Lachlan.
That means that splendid fig is in the way.
My idea, if the new roadworks cant' be fitted around the tree, is to gently lift it and move it across Bourke to the park site planned for Dahua/Cent.Workshops site.
Pragmatists will say it's only a tree and it will cost too much to move, but what price a hundred or so year old tree of such quality?! They've just done it in Hyde Park for the War Memorial extension, so why not here, a ready made, fully mature centrepiece for the new park?

Fig trees are notoriously difficult to move because of their root structures, and if moved only about 20% survive the move. Sadly I think these ones are doomed.

It can be done, however, so I remain hopeful.

Very impresssive... JQZ build very quickly and build very nice looking buildings too.
Does anyone know if those green panels/flaps are adjustable?

I would like to know what the rooftop is going to look like where those bits we see overhang.

Can you also remind us Brizer how tall Waterfall will be ( storeys ) and what the extension to the Rope Walk park area will look like in front of it and Viking?

The Tower Residences: I assume the structures on top of the tower are loggias or trellises for vines to grow over & for shade in a rooftop garden...unless plans have changed.

Waterfall: tower will be 21 storeys and c.68m tall.

NEW DEVELOPMENTS

STAFF REPORTER | 15 JUNE 2017

Waterloo's Waterfall by Crown Group launching this weekend

Crown Group is anticipating a strong sales result when its latest project Waterfall by Crown Group is launched tomorrow, June 17.

Marketed as Sydney’s most natural address, the $400-million Waterfall by Crown Group features 331 apartments including studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments as well as courtyard apartments and double-storey penthouses.

“We’ve been inundated with hundreds of people visiting our Waterfall display suite in the past five days in the lead up to the sales launch this Saturday,” said Crown Group Chairman and CEO, Iwan Sunito.

“This development has captured worldwide attention with its revolutionary use of natural elements, water and green space.

“There is a strong demand for quality developments from developers with a strong track-record in Sydney,” Mr Sunito said.

More than 2000 people attended the star-studded Waterfall by Crown Group Unveiling event last month.

Located at 18 O’dea Avenue Waterloo, Waterfall by Crown Group is designed by architects SJB.

It will comprise three seven-storey buildings and an iconic 20-storey sculptural tower overlooking lush, tropical landscaping.

NB the image in this article is squashed and makes the tower look shorter and wider than it will be.

I wonder now following the London skyscraper tower fire whether we shouldnt revisit a topic I raised some time ago regarding the claddings on our apartment blocks here in Victoria Park. Comments are constantly made in the media about building industry concerns about the use of these all over Australia.
I was told my building was covered in Alcubond not Alcubest but still wonder how safe all these materials are.
I would welcome any feedback from people who know a bit about the topic of fire and construction safety.

Waterfall By Crown Group Grand Launch 17/06/2017

Starting from 600k-ish, it certainly isn't cheap at all. BUT looks like almost all of the apartments were sold yesterday?

Huge sales for the Waterfall launch. From The Australian:

Quote:
Sydney apartment boom continues with Crown Group off-plan sales

June 19, 2017
Ben Wilmot

The Sydney apartment boom is still raging with Crown Group selling a stronger-than-expected $300 million worth of units off the plan at the launch of its luxury project Waterfall by Crown in inner Sydney’s Waterloo.

The developer had allocated $200m worth of units to sell on Saturday but more than 500 prospective buyers attended so the company released another $100m of apartments on the spot.

Crown sold $380m worth of units at the launch of its Infinity project in nearby Green Square in 2015 but it sold more apartments in the first hour at Saturday’s launch.

It hit a massive $120m worth of sales in the first 60 minutes in what was the fastest launch of any project by Crown.

The top end of the market is also running hot with Crown selling three penthouses for a total of $12 million to Sydney-based buyers.

Crown has anticipated a strong sales result as inquiries continue for the $395m Waterfall project, but it was surprised by the depth of demand.

The development will have 331 apartments, including studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments as well as courtyard apartments and double-storey penthouses.

Crown chairman Iwan Sunito said ahead of the event that the developer was “inundated” with hundreds of people visiting the Waterfall display suite in the lead-up to the sales launch.

“There is a strong demand for quality developments from developers with a strong track-record in Sydney,” Mr Sunito said.

Located at 18 O’Dea Avenue Waterloo, the project is designed by architects SJB, and will comprise three seven-storey buildings and an iconic 20-storey sculptural tower overlooking lush, tropical landscaping and a beautiful water garden.

Public art is a key element of Waterfall: Mika Utzon Popov, grandson of Sydney Opera House architect Jørn Utzon, is creating a large-scale artwork integrated in the design.

Comment on fb by a local agent (for another project):

"A buyer walked into my office earlier today who put a deposit down for a 59sqm total, 1bed + study, no parking, East facing $935,000.....Asked me if that was a good price"

No kid!
