Yogesh, do not believe in Peethambara Kuruppu's words. He gives false promises. He has not fulfilled any of his manifesto promises. Moreover he gives tall talks once ina while which will not materialize or he will not take any initiative to realize it.

He preaches a lot but does not practice it. What happend to his promises of "Regional Passport Office", IT City at Kollam, Kollam Port development, Kollam Cashew Board...etc..etc..etc.

He does not know how to present the matters to the concerned people in Delhi or atleast to the people like A K Antony, E Ahmed or other Kerala central ministers and other government officials.

See how K C Venugopal gains each developmental projects for Allappuzha. I think K C Venugopal is one of the best MPs in Kerala now. He made sure that Alleppy Bypass work will be completed in the next 3 months.

We can feel the difference in Karunagapally Assembly constituency as well as it comes under Allappuzha Lok Sabha constituency. He gives great attention to Karunagapally as well though it is in Kollam district.

Kuruppe, you should make KCV as a role model.

Yogesh, P K Gurudasan and MA Baby have done relatively well compared to other ministers.

If there is any change in Kollam city and suburbs uncluding the Kundara region especially in the last 3-4 years, it is because of the developmental activities itiated by Gurudasan and M A Baby over the last 3 or 4 years.

Kollam Port, Kollam Techno Park, Ashramam - Kappalandimukku 4-lane road, Ashramam Link road, Ashtamudi Lake Circuit tourism program, Kollam beach and MG park face lift, Ashramam Adventure park and Childrens park renovagtion, boat terminals at varios parts of the city, ESI medical college at Paripally, ESI Dental college at Ezhikone, Fashion Technology institute at Vellimon, Science City and Foreign language institute in the district, Kerala Institute of Management, Rural IT parks at Perinad, Kadakkal....etc are some of the contribution of these ministers.

All these and much more happend only in the last 3 to 4 years. It is great achievent when we compare the last 15 or 10 years.

Passport Seva Kendra to be opened in Kollam in 2011

77 Passport Seva Kendras next year

Seventy-seven Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs), 13 of them in Kerala, are to be opened under Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) all over the country in the coming year, Basant K. Gupta, Additional Secretary, External Affairs Ministry, said on Sunday.

The PSK initiative was intended to decentralise the functioning of passport offices and provide better facilities to applicants in remote centres who have IT access. The front-end staff of the PSKs would be outsourced; already personnel from Tata Consultancy Services were filling the spots. Superintendence, police verification and sanctioning of passports would be done by regular passport staff, he said.

This year, nearly 50 lakh passports were issued and the number was expected to be doubled by 2015. Efforts were on to issue passports within 30 days of application.

Mr. Gupta, along with Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, was in Kochi for a regional conference, attended by representatives from 16 RPOs in the south.

Answering a query, Mr. Gupta said a provision for receipt of passport applications online had been made in Kochi last year.

There were six lakh pending passport applications in Kerala.

The additional cost per passport would not be more than Rs. 200 if applicants used the services of PSKs, he said in response to another question.

The PSKs were the outcome of a study done by the Hyderabad-based National Institute for Smart Governance, as part of the e-governance initiative.

Answering a question, Mr. Gupta said the passport office would also send the request for police verification online. One cause of delay in issuance of passports was the long process of police verification. Henceforth, to cut down the delay, such requests would be routed to the respective district offices, rather than sending them to the State headquarters, from the coming year.

Biometrics was also to be developed for passport procedures. Prints of all 10 fingers of an applicant would be collected and digitised photographs affixed in passports to prevent forgery and replacement of photographs.

Mr. Gupta said the requisition process of ECR/ECNR — emigration clearance required/emigration clearance not required — would be streamlined. The number of countries requiring emigration clearance had come down from 59 to 10.

In the first quarter of 2011, three passport adalats (courts) would be held on fixed dates in January, February and March. This exercise would bring down the number of pending applications and enable quick redress of grievances.

B. Sreekumar, Regional Passport Officer, Kochi, said PSKs would come up at Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Aluva, Angamaly, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Vadakara and Kannur 1 and Kannur 2.

Yogesh, I believe there will be two bridges between Kureepuzha and Kavanadu. There is no mentioning of that bridge in the news but the additional bridge is inevitable. The distance of the stretch from Kureepuzha to Kavanad is around 4 KMs.

Chinnakada underpass work clears a hurdle

State to reach settlement with Railways on encroached land

KOLLAM: Authorities from the Kollam Corporation, the Revenue Department and Railways conducted a survey in the Chinnakada roundabout area on Monday in a bid to overcome the hurdles to the construction of an underpass through the Chinnakada road over-bridge.

The survey, headed by Kollam tahasildar M. Vishwanathan, found true Railways' complaint that 30 cents (0.12 hectare) of its land was encroached upon in the area (then known as Kunjammapalam) by the erstwhile Kollam Development Authority 15 years ago.

The State government will now reach a settlement with Railways on the land. Under an agreement reached, the Corporation can start work on the underpass in anticipation that 18.5 cents (0.07 hectare) of railway land required for the work will be transferred in due course.

Railways had handed over 40 cents (0.16 hectare) of idle land in its possession to the authority at a land value of Rs.4.75 lakh for road development work in the Kunjammapalam area. But another 30 cents were encroached upon. At that time, Kollam was a municipality.

When Kollam became a City Corporation, the civic body came out with a project to construct the underpass for easing traffic congestion at Chinnakada. The 18.5 cents of land was required to construct an approach road and the Corporation authorities approached Railways for it.

Revenue land

In lieu of that land, the government handed over 1.22 acres (0.48 hectare) of revenue land at the Karbala junction area to Railways. But even after two years of this transaction, Railways failed to hand over the land at Chinnakada. Several meetings were held among the authorities of the Corporation, the government and Railways but in vain.

But on December 28, on the initiative of Mayor Prasanna Earnest, the Chief Secretary called a meeting of the Corporation, revenue and Railway authorities in Thiruvananthapuram to discuss the issue. It was at that meeting that the Railway authorities mentioned about the alleged encroachment and wanted that to be settled first and its land value paid.

Sanction for Iron bridge work sought

Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan, who is also Kollam MLA, has written to Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath to accord administrative sanction for Rs.7.84 crore at the earliest for the construction of a bridge parallel to the Irumbupalam across the Kollam canal in the city.

He has said the Irumbupalam point along National Highway 47 remains a bottleneck since the bridge is too narrow to accommodate the heavy traffic there.

Fund allocation

Fund allocation for the new bridge has been cleared by the Centre in principle following efforts by the State government.
