THE MUNN'S Thread

Do you have any Munns stories? Do you even know where it is? Alot of us dont apparently. This can double for news on the development about to take place on the site.

I loved Munns when they had the most beautiful shop assistant working there at the end of 2006. She looked like a 1940's film starlet, slim, elegant and gorgeous arse. I bought sooooooooooooo many pair of jeans from her. Well, four. And really all I was trying to do was pluck up the courage to ask her out!!! Walked past there a while ago and it looks like she gone. Oh well.

I went to school with a bloke who used to work there, if he is still there he is probably a manager. But that's a good excuse to buy genes, just as long as they are good genes.

Walked past it last time I was home, feeling depressed that there were no new buildings to speak of - and hey presto - we have C1 and Munns munnting building is going to be pulled down and at least an 8 leveler built in it's place. Something like the new IRD building would not be bad.

I saw some plans for the new building in the Press a while ago? It isnt super huge or anything- about 8 storeys maybe? I kinda lost interest in ready any further when I found out it wasnt going to hit double figures. Does anybody know anymore about it? Lots going on in this part of town. Will it have retail on the ground level or will Munns have to relocate?

Like you, I can remember something about it in the Press, but forgot all about it.

I've looked back through the Press and I can't find the article about the redevelopment of this site.

Anyways, we have a thread up and going for when we get news...

to be honest 8 stories is fine by me because....

A) it fills in a gap in a promising area of the cbd
B) at the same time it wont cast a huge shadow over wonderfull new regent street

I suspect "B" is perhaps the reason the site remained so barren for so long, and perhaps why the current proposal for development on said site is only 8 stories.....

^ Agreed, 8 levels is fine for a building on this site. Besides, it's taller than the one we have there currently which is only 1 level I think.

The soon to be developed Munns site on Armagh Street, photo taken this afternoon. Theres the C1 tower (crane lowered) and Grand Chancellor Hotel rising up in the background, just so you have a perspective on where these all are in relation to each other.

Armagh Street is really banks and offices. Busy during a week day but dead on the weekend despite having New Regent Street running of it. Retail seems to have a hard time getting established here. The shops next to Munns are imminently forgettable and usually out of business within a year. Except for that stationers which hasnt changed since 1962. Well that one has shut up shop now- all getting ready for the development. Busy during a week day but dead on the weekend despite having New Regent Street running of it.
