Goodbye Trolleybusses. RIP

Well this is now official. Lines 6 & 7 are being closed down. The less lines there are the more costly it is to keep remaining ones alive. So in few years time they will permanently shut down

This is sad...

I really loved those old round-body Skodas, which were still running when I was a small kid. I never liked angular Skodas and Solaris trolleybuses always felt too soulless.

Need liininumbritega tahvlid peatustes on üks õudsamatest asjadest Tallinna transpordis üldse!

I think you're overreacting. There will remain still 5 lines, besides more than half of Tallinn's trolleybus fleet are Solaris Trollino cars (all 100%LF and most of them 8 years old and younger). It's a little bit unbelievable that they gonna close it...

No he isn't overreacting. The authorities in Tallinn are notorious for making controversial decisions.
The best example is closure of trolleyroute #2. At first rumors about closing the trolleybus route began to spread and when these rumors went into public media, authorities in Tallinn denied all these plans. 6 weeks later the route #2 was replaced with buses #24 and 24A and authorities confirmed all the other routes will remain...

The inconsistent thinking and absence of any vision about the public transport system makes me think that even hybrids won't stay very long as the hybrids are already showing the higher fuel consumption figures than articulated MAN buses.

How is that even possible?

Because at the higher speeds (more than 50km/h) the hybrids are only the diesel engine which in Volvo it is small 5 litre and rather underpowered for that kind of vehicle. In order to accelerate in higher speed, the diesel engine in hybrids has to do more work than the bigger and more powerful MAN engine.
Simply said - those hybrids are just on the wrong routes. When those hybrids would have been on route 40, which is one of the slowest routes Tallinn, then these buses would be more economical compared to the diesel only buses.
