I remember one particular VC-10 over our place at Frenchs' Forest in 1970. At that point it was still quite high, however the four engines mounted aft were extremely loud, louder than a 707 or DC-8. Ironic too, when BOAC advertised how quiet they were inside.

Interesting weekend in politics huh? Let us hope the LNP doesn't in any way equate Badgerys' curfew free status with their Western Sydney fail.

Yeah I have been thinking about that too

People who would prefer a HSR to Canberra are
Anthony Albanese
Barry O'Farrell
Terry Snow
And the lady on TV who voted Labor because she did not want any noisy aircraft near her house.

If people could get the same jobs building the HSR to Canberra as building an airport then I think they would prefer it especially as now Canberra is doing international flights.

^ Haha, moving all the new (operational) airport jobs to Canberra WOULD get the locals screaming.

HSR to CBR should never be considered on the basis that CBR airport could ever be a 2nd airport for the SYD region.
The whole CBR 2nd Sydney airport dream is a non-starter.

It's no worse that Badgers. Both require expensive new rail links and even with Badgers, you aren't going to get connectivity to much of Sydney under an hour.

What people are saying is you could build HSR to CBR for its own sake, and have a ready made (or readily expandable) existing International Airport usable right now. And the side benefit of being able to discontinue SYD-CBR flights.

no problem with that. If a SYD-CBR HSR is viable and can provide adequate returns on the investment then it should surely be built.
It still doesn't take away the need for Badgerys though. Even with HSR, CBR will never be an alternative or 2nd airport for the Sydney region (even if it is already there and expandable ). If Canberra was 150-200km closer to Sydney then maybe. ..but not at 300km.
