chernobyl_world got their hands on more and higher quality pictures from the above set (and I'd love to know how!).

Any updates on the general status of things at the NSC? Seems like the project is moving forward nicely

Then not necessary a third sarcophagus once removed the remains of reactor 4, no? Because they said that this could last 100 years ... after nothing, right?

Not really, work pretty much stops during this time of year. It should restart progressively over the next few weeks.

ChNPP published an article saying that the NSC already had a positive impact on the radiation levels around the plant, mainly due to the fact that rain/snow can't spread radioactive material anymore since the NSC covers the sarcophagus.

If, after 100 years, they successfully removed all radioactive materials and made the site safe, they won't need a third confinement. No one knows what will happen then, but if the area is safe, everything gets a lot simpler.

No, 100 years.

Also, here's the documentary that Union Man mentionned.

There are still gaps between the shelter and the existing building. They are going to be closed, aren't they?

I've been trying to catch up on this since they did the slide...the images from inside the NSC are nothing short of impressive. Very well done!

Why use a flexible membrane instead of just sealing it up with metal?

The big metal NSC is moving: Snow loads, wind, temperature,...
A solid sealing would be crushed under these forces.
