Fabs Sydney: Kingsford

Located 7km south east of the Sydney CBD lies the suburb of Kingsford.

Anzac Parade is the major arterial that treks through the suburb and is the centre of activity.

Interesting pics of a lesser known (for visitors at least) part of Sydney suburbia. In one of the pics of St Spyridon you can also see the college buildings of the school adjoined to it.

Does Kingsford now have a large Asian community as can be seen by the shops in your pics? I was in Burwood visiting friends last week on a visit to Sydney and as a youngster I remember Burwood Rd being full of Greek and Italian owned businesses, but now it is clearly dominated by Asian businesses and I suppose a large local Asian community. It was interesting and of course there was lots of yummy Asian eateries around to satisfy my taste-buds.

I went on along Burwood Rd passing the beautiful established park there with its mature palm trees, heading north, and stumbled into lovely Concord. I heard later that many Greek and Italian Aussies have moved to this suburb from other adjoining areas. The main drag, I think it was called Majors Rd has a very neat 'eat street al-fresco' dining strip with nice euro-style establishments. Going from Burwood to Concord was like travelling from Asia to Europe and that's the beauty of Sydney and indeed Australian cities in general, the diversity and choice we have. You should showcase Concord one time if you like, it's well worth it, and go to the Greek-Aussie run cafe Espresso Organica...very nice.

Yes it does Skymantle- hence its cheeky local nickname of Chingsford!

I can see my office in 2 of these pics There's some great cheap eateries here too, catering to the UNSW students and locals.

The Anzac pde strip also gained infamy when Keating criticed the poor design and canyoning effect of apartments there. Still, its a nice little strip with everything one needs.

Nice pics btw, Fabian.

Kingsford is the main centre of Sydney's Indonesian community, as well as having many Malaysian and Chinese residents and businesses.

I see, thank you both guys.

I must add, that although these apartments no doubt are invaluable for housing, I don't find them entirely architecturally appealing, for Sydney suburbia at least. Perhaps more fitting in a northern NSW coastal resort town or the Gold Coast, but for Sydney they're a bit pedestrian looking IMHO. Still, compared to some of the characterless blocks from the 50's and 60's, I suppose they're not too bad. I also noticed many highrise apartments going up in Burwood and surrounds.

That strip has a real 90s look and feel to it, it hasn't aged well.

Nice pictorial suburb analysis again Fabs

That was Bob Carr who made the comments, not Keating.
