Norwichlad,

A good couple of examples of fairly tall-building 'friendly' areas but still don't think you'd want to build anything that impacted the skyline too much. I think we seem to both agree the 10 storey mark would be a general limit for a place like Norwich.

Norwichjewels' it's not just about the visual skyline either, the character of the place itself would change if it overdeveloped its centre too much. That would be to the detriment of the City. And that is what I mean when I talk about towers not truly representing Norwich's successes.

You both have nice ideas and probably slightly hopeful desires to have some towers to 'have as our own' maybe in the face of everyone else on Skyscrapercity! but I suspect we'll never see any great shift to towers in my life time. The gaps in the urban fabric in appropriate places will fill with modest blocks of good designs, but that's it..

I'm liking the brickwork of the new student accommodation near the bus station, however the Travelodge just opposite is looking horrendous and already feels dated.

Just out of context, I only found out today that Norfolk Tower opposite my former school Notre Dame on Surrey street is only 45m tall. When I was at school it felt like a skyscraper, although I was expecting it to be slightly taller than 45m.

Just another before it gets dark!
Another beautiful photo of Norwich, this one by Jason Brown. Main towers increased 2-3 fold

You will definitely have to dream about your tall glass tower! Bear in mind where you've placed it, it would be amongst terraced housing! Even in the city centre a tower that size would be phenomenally larger at street level than any other building.

Your ones showing existing towers but extended in height are more believable but I still think they make the skyline look ugly. Makes it look like some bigger provincial cities where the historical buildings have been slowly overshadowed and hidden by uglier office blocks. Leicester, Nottingham spring to mind.

I'm pretty sure the previous building has been demolished. Not sure when construction is meant to start.

The student development has topped out.
I can't post photos or links though.
If you go to alumno developments website > Projects > All Saints Green
You can find photos there
