Is this another Silverbird project? It's nice to see that developers aren't just focusing on the big cities of the nation, in bringing some sound projects to the small, less known cities as well.

It's not a village, it is the capital of the state.

Wow, Silverbird have money to throw away. Building an 'entertainment centre' in the swamp. The person who came up with this idea should definately be promoted!

Do not underestimate decision like this, you will be suprised. Plenty of projects like those have proved to be succesfull in Joburg. That's just one step to revitilization of the whole area.

Given the economic research and feasibility studies of the people who invested money into this project, I would bet it will succeed. The investors are, after all, probably more knowledgeable of the economic reality in this area than you are. You might want to think about that.

There is now an increased investment in the Niger Delta, there are many projects there being constructed and the militants are no longer interrupting them. With the Exception of Lagos, Abuja I can't think of many locations in Nigeria getting as much investments now as the Niger Delta. Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers State, Cross River, Ogun State are all seeing increased investments and the amount of money allocated for the region next year has increased.

Ah yes, because the state in Nigeria with amongst the lowest populations in Nigeria according to the 2006 census (although I don't trust it) would really seem like a wise decision to you. Yenagoa is one of the most volatile towns in Nigeria given the recent usurp of violence in the ND area and it is amongst the poorest in Nigeria, bar the Northern states. Are you telling me that there aren't plenty of other lucrative places with the chance of making money? Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna, Calabar, Jos, Enugu, Aba, Onitsha, Abeokuta even suburbs in Lagos ex. Ikeja, Muchin, Yaba are crying for developments like such and quadriple that amount of money ever dreamed attainable in the whole of bayelsa would be gotten from these place. Besides there are more cities in the ND area (if they most invest in said area) Benin, PH, Warri, Asaba which would put this Galleria to a better use. This is like investing in a mega mall for Holy Cross, Alaska when so many other American cities require the same service.

I understand the point you are making, but remember we are not seeing one development there or two developments here, Most States in the Western Delta are now looking for a complete transformation.

So what we seeing is not investments that are aimed at being profitable, but investments that are aimed at branding new cities and consequently becoming economically viable.

Silverbird's Goals and the Goals of Bayelsa State Intersect.

Silverbird group want to be the biggest entertainment outlet in Africa and this can only be achieved by being present here there and everywhere, while Bayelsa State wants to rebrand its economy and develop a world Class City Centre.

Match made in heaven.

yeah the guy Bruce Ben Murray has really revived the entertainment industry and his brother Michael is also doing big things.

This family are single handedly transforming the entertainment industry in the country. It's Crazy, there were many cinemas in Nigeria in the past, they had many in Lagos and in Ibadan but they all died down, and this family didn't just bring it back to Lagos they are bringing them all around the country.

Bayelsa Govt Business District to Gulp N130bn
Samuel Oyadongha, The Vanguard 8 April 2008

Lagos — The dredging of the site of the Bayelsa State government planned Central Business District (CBD) in Yenagoa will gulp over N25 billion.

The designated marshy terrain, situated along the strategic Sani Abacha expressway in Yenagoa metropolis, has already been cleared by the government. It is a private-public partnership project.

A total N130 billion is required to fund the project. Speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa, the state Finance Commissioner, Dr. Silva Opuala-Charles said to translate into reality the vision of the state government, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) to drive the process has been put in place. The private sector the commissioner noted will be expected to invest in the project while the government would have equity shares.

He said, "Based on Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) which is a company to be incorporated; contracts will be awarded," adding that arrangements have reached an advance state.

"The Central Business District is of first class standard which Bayelsans will be proud of as it will have a financial centre and shopping mall," he said adding that seven financial institutions including Oceanic Bank are leading the team of private investors who have indicated willingness to participate in the CBD projects.

"With the clearing of the site for the project, the next phase is dredging which would take off after the Special Purpose Vehicle has been put in place by the stakeholders," he said adding that over N25 billion would be required for the dredging of the site for the Central Business District.

"Apart from the CBD, government is also pursuing the Marina , the millennium park, the sea and airport as well as the three senatorial road projects which required huge sums of money to undertake," he added.

Dr. Opuala-Charles said over forty internal roads projects are ongoing in line with the vision of Governor Timipre Sylva to open up the entire state especially the capital as a deliberate strategy to provide basic infrastructure and attract private investors to the state.
