Will be ovre in Liverpool for a night on 24th Sept, now I need advise, I am looking for a decent priced hotel (near Lime Street) and things to do with the Mrs (she is wellup for a few Blue WKD's so advise on pubs wouldn't go amiss).
The Holiday Inn by the station is £99 per night, would prefer something much cheaper.
There's a Travel Inn in town between Tithebarn and Dale St too, but I'd recommend one of the family run establishments on Mt Quite Pleasant if they're available. close to the decent bars+resturants up Hope St end too...
Near Lime St...well, ideally, I'd look a little further afield, but heres a few nearby...you'll find these on Google.
Travel Lodge- really new and near museums etc...
Gladstone Hotel - Slightly mancy on the outside but very recently refurbed, so should be nice.
Travel Inn - Again, very central and smartly decked out indoors. please forgive the poor muppet who designed the outside though.
Travel Inn, Vernon St - Cant go wrong with Travel Inn ...cheap (about 50 squid per night) and this one is on a quiter street...but really near all things good.
Marriot - very nice and near station, but getting pricier..
Feathers, Mt Pleasant - Bit overpriced for what u get and up a hill, but nay bad.
There are many wee hotels too.
In the sticks...
try the Solna Hotal or the Alicia on Sefton Park...a bit further out, but you can get really good deals if you ring them up and they are really nice..particularly the Alicia....Sefton Park is directly opposite, which is fabulous in itself (see the palmhouse)
Check out laterooms.com...you'll find mucho bargainicity there. I use it religiously and you'll find the same hotels on there for less than you'd get if you booked direct...funny old world.
Anyhoo, hope to see you havin a smiley one when you visit and I hope this helps.
Nice of you to post a link JUXTAPOL, so please dont take what follows personally!
But what a useless ****ing site that is! It's slow, annoying and doesn't give you comparative price information. Worse, it advertises completely misleading (should be illegal) price information that lure you to a hotel, then you find out its more expensive.
I tried that outfit for a phone reservation, they were useless - the person insisted on using my first name once he had it, which wasn't appropriate, promised to phone me back, and never did, so I booked directly myself with a hotel.
And what kind of thieving knavery is this:
"You are required to pay a 10% deposit to secure your booking which is non-refundable. The amount to be debited from your card will be £10.80, the balance should be paid on departure from the hotel"
They can **** right off with their ****ing 10% rip-off charge. Parasitical scum. Book directly with hotels and you can cancel with no charge unless its close to the date you were due to stay.
This is a timely wake-up call, Liverpool needs a decent hotel booking website.

I dont expect Nobby to book through this site, best if he just uses it for information only, as this site does give the phone numbers for each hotel, so he can speak direct to the hotel and maybe get a good deal without paying the 10%.
The site also has lots of other info on eating out, events things to do and nightlife.
Sorry by slow meant cumbersome, its badly designed and you can end up having to enter information twice, or more than that, just to get prices for the same night. Slow to use, not slow in server terms, is what I meant to say.
I've had to use those sites a lot in last few years for various trips, and I hate any that do the rip-off booking fee disguised as cancellation fee, and that one is just not easy to use. Lots of European travellers will be looking for places to stay in , and the Easyjet site is another rip-off one that disguises its booking fee as a cancellation fee, so hopefully someone will see a gap in the market and set up a high quality site.
True Liverpolitan...There are so many rip-offs these days, where you dont get the full info or told about hidden charges. I'm amazed at how you always end up paying double on the price of a holiday shown in a brochure. :bash:
If i were you nobby i would keep my eye on The Marriot web site as quite often they do deals and you will pay no more than 60 notes for accomodation in a decent hotel.
Alternatively you could just wing it ( dont think the missus will appreciate it) but you can always pick up really good late deals. I rememeber two nights in preseidential suite in Brussels Crowne plaza for £50 a night. Not bad eh - bit of a gamble tho!
Bstcapl, I stayed in the Marriott next to St Georges Hall a few years back, and the view from my window was entirely filled by St Georges Hall - it was a stupendous backdrop! It's a real 4 start hotel I think, not one of these 3 star ones that calls itself 4 star, the room I had was really big, and although work paid I dont think it was that expensive, or they would have made me sleep rough in Lime Street station. Only complaint was breakfast - nothing for vegetarians, not even the yogurt was vegetarian, and the staff were "weird" with me when I complained about this, as though I was some kind of southern ponce with funny eating habits.
I've slept rough in Lime St Station. My friend and I saw a gig in Liverpool and, not for the first time, we missed the last train back to York. It was November of 2003 when the scaffolding was still on St Georges. We jumped over the fence and slept on the scaffolding floor boards for a while. But that was uncomfortable and cold (even with a skinful of ale and ganja) so we ended up sneaking into Lime St at about 3am and sleeping on a parked up commuter train. We were woken at about 7am when a member of staff came into the train- we managed to get away with without ever being noticed. Perhaps that's something for station security to consider- although we were well-raised kids and didn't commit any vandalism or other damage.
Well anyway, it was funny at the time- if stupid and irresponsible. The only hotel I have ever stayed in in Lpool didn't even deserve to have one star. It was along the road if you walk past the Baltic Fleet away from town. It was a very weird, run-down, troggy state of affairs and it cost about £15 to stay in for the night. This was about 5 years ago when I was a sixth former and my friends and I had the stupid idea of using our pocket money on staying in town rather than going back to Runcorn late at night. I've often wondered whether it is still there. It had a really unlikely name like the Paradise Suite or some shit like that.

The Formule One Hotel looks to be very cheap but is likely to be basic, but it is by the Waterfront.
