✈ | 3R/FV/N4/R3/S7°/SU™/U6/UN/UT/WZ | Russia-Based Carriers

by Oleg Chaplin/http://www.airliners.net

Aeroflot, the leader of Russia’s air fleet, is a member of SkyTeam, the global airline alliance. Aeroflot’s overall flight network comprises 898 locations in 169 countries. In 2010, 11.3 mln passengers used Aeroflot’s services and 14.07 mln used the services offered by the Aeroflot group.

Aeroflot was the winner in the contest between European members of SkyTeam in serving economy-class passengers in short- and medium-range flights and business-class passengers in long-range flights. “Onboard Survey,” the marketing survey conducted by SkyTeam from April to September 2009, confirmed Aeroflot’s leading positions.

Aeroflot belongs to 25 leading airlines of the world according to Air Transport World journal, based on the results of its financial and economic activities in 2009 (“operating profit” and “profit margin” categories).

Aeroflot was the first Russian carrier to be included in the IOSA operator registry and it continues to confirm the certificate in a regular way. The airline has successfully passed the Safety audit for ground operations (ISAGO).

Aeroflot is a holder of the unified certificate of compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008.
Aeroflot operates one of the youngest air fleets in Europe that consists of 101 aircraft. Aeroflot’s hub is Sheremetyevo international airport in Moscow.

Aeroflot suggests a new wine card for passengers of a business class

Aeroflot, following recommendations of the leading wine experts with a world name, has essentially updated, has expanded and has qualitatively improved a set of wines and champagne for passengers of a business class. Now the best brands of these drinks from the most authoritative manufacturers, for example, one the most known champagnes in the world — Louis Roederer will be offered to passengers of a business class of Aeroflot. Besides new wines and champagne for the first time on Aeroflot flights, with duration of flight over 6 hours, various cocktails will be offered.

Aeroflot’s brand evaluated at $1.086 billion

Russian carrier Aeroflot unveiled its brand value. According to this estimate, the company currently ranks among the 20 most expensive airlines in the world. At the end of 2010 the value of Aeroflot was $1.086 billion. Analysts mention the steady position of the brand, its status and high customer loyalty.
Evaluation of Aeroflot brand was conducted by British company Brand Finance, an acknowledged world leader in brand evaluation. According to Director General of JSC Aeroflot Vitaly Saveliev, “our company’s entering the top-20 world aviation brands is yet another confirmation of the status of Aeroflot as one of the major players in the global marketplace.”
According to a study conducted by Brand Finance, Aeroflot is one of the few Russian companies in the non-oil sector widely known in the world and able to compete on equal terms with the leaders of the global aviation industry. To date, the largest share of the cost of the brand of Aeroflot is in the domestic market. According to “Business Times”, the most favorable foreign market for the company is Europe, where Aeroflot is known and the strength of its brand is very significant.
According to KP.ru, Aeroflot is currently trying to further increase brand loyalty through improved service. The company has already enhanced the criteria of flight attendants selection. Many of them have already been trained in the school of air service in Singapore and are successfully sharing the experience with their colleagues. Flight attendants’ uniform was updated as well and became more stylish. Aeroflot began to provide Internet access and mobile service on board aircraft. Many passengers noticed that the quality and variety of meals and assortment of drinks have been improved.
The experts of Brand Finance say that under favorable market conditions and the right strategy, the brand value of the company could reach $1.4 billion by the end of this year. In assessing the brand the agency relied on the forecast value of the company’s business in a 5-year term, the value of all trademarks of the company, domain names, corporate identity and business reputation, Vedomosti reports.
Estimated cost of the branded business of Aeroflot in terms of passenger traffic is estimated at $5.23 billion.
“In the air transportation the share of the brand (brand name, marketing component, image and reputation of the company) in business evaluation is much lower than in other industries as air transport is characterized by low predictability of profitability and high sensitivity to external factors. Against this backdrop, the brand of the leading Russian airline looks more than worthy,” the study says.
In addition, Aeroflot boasts one of the highest ratios of brand value to market capitalization. In this regard, analysts of Brand Finance claim that the company is undervalued: Aeroflot should cost $5.235 billion, and the brand’s share in this value should be 21%. Vedomosti noted that the capitalization of Aeroflot on the MICEX was approximately $2.7 billion. At the same time, the Russian air carrier did not ranke among the International Association of Civil Aviation in the top 50 carriers in 2009.
The most expensive brands among airlines are Lufthansa ($3,770 billion), Singapore Airlines ($ 3,585 billion), Emirates ($3,395), Delta Air Lines ($3,153) and China Southern Airlines ($2,495). With regards to other areas of the economy, Russia’s largest retail bank Sberbank has taken 65th place in the world ranking of banking brands. Brand Finance recognized WalMart as the most expensive brand in the world.

I remember that there were plans to launch flights with a319, but due to too less demand flight didn't even begin. So I think when SU will get superjets they might begin flights from SVO (I hope so)

It was discussed actually, but i dont see smth bad in it, it was a symbol for dozens of years, its still there after rebranding. For me its not a symbol of the Soviet Union, its just a part of AFL brand history, nothing more.

Aeroflot signs $1.15 bln order for 8 Boeing 777-300ER

Russia's flagship airline Aeroflot will buy eight Boeing 777-300ER long-haul airliners under a firm contract signed between the two companies on Tuesday at the Le Bourget Air Show outside the French capital.

Aeroflot said in March it would buy eight Boeing 777s for $1.156 billion, with a considerable discount to their catalog price of $2.168 billion. Under the deal, U.S. aerospace giant Boeing planned to supply Aeroflot with two Boeing 777-200ERs and six Boeing 777-300ERs from the fourth quarter of 2012 to the second quarter of 2016.

Aeroflot General Director Vitaly Savelyev said in April that these planes would strengthen the company's strategic opportunities for developing its route network, including international routes, which Aeroflot expects to serve with the partners in SkyTeam alliance during the Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014 and FIFA World Cup 2018.

Boeing 777s can carry from 300 to 400 passengers over 14,000 kilometers.
Aeroflot's fleet includes 11 Boeing 767 long-haul wide-body planes and 11 Airbus A330s.
Aeroflot also intends to review its cooperation with the European aircraft-building company Airbus, which has breached the terms of the supply of airliners to the Russian airline, a source in Aeroflot said.
Airbus is to supply Aeroflot with nine or ten A330s and three A321s.
