Aeroflot named Europe’s fastest-growing mainline airline

Moscow, 31 March 2017 – Aeroflot was Europe’s fastest-growing mainline airline in 2016, growing passenger traffic at a higher pace than peers including Lufthansa, British Airways, Air France, Turkish Airlines and KLM, according to Airline Business magazine.

Aeroflot’s passenger traffic grew by more than 11% to 82.7 billion revenue passenger kilometres (RPKs), putting Russia’s flagship carrier firmly among the top half-dozen European airlines.

Aeroflot’s ability to continue growing this key operational indicator despite the macroeconomic challenges of 2016 once again underscores the efficiency of the airline’s business model.

The Airline Business rating also confirms Aeroflot’s continued success in making progress towards its strategic goal for 2025 of becoming a top-five European carrier by passenger traffic and revenue.

Other international surveys have noted Aeroflot’s impressive operational and financial growth and powerful growth potential. In a recent study, CAPA – Centre for Aviation, the leading global aviation industry analytical centre, underscored that Aeroflot’s success in 2016 is the result of the group’s successful strategic transformation and will continue to support its future growth.

Now we are launching a flight to Vienna, the capital of Austria, for fans of excursion trips, art and classical architecture. We will also be happy to welcome passengers from Vienna onboard of S7 Airlines flights. The schedule is set up to make it convenient to travel not only from Vienna to Moscow, but also to other Russian cities of S7 Airlines route map with a short-time connection at the Domodedovo airport,” – said Alexey Leonov, Deputy General Representative Europe of S7 Airlines.

NordWind fleet to expand with seven Boeing 737-800

All of NordWind Airlines' aircraft will eventually receive the new livery, including the Boeing 777s (NordWind Airlines)

Russian carrier NordWind Airlines is expanding its fleet and rebranding in a bid to increase its presence on the domestic air travel market, CCO Imran Nazarov told Russian Aviation Insider. According to Nazarov, seven Boeing 737-800s in NordWind’s new livery will be delivered before the end of May.

The first of the batch (serial number 42059, built in 2016) is currently undergoing a maintenance check at Woensdrecht Airport in the Netherlands. It was photographed by the airline’s employee, who posted the picture in his social media account. The aircraft is scheduled to arrive in Russia in early April.

Nazarov said the new airplanes will be primarily operated on NordWind’s domestic routes, including those subsidized by the government. He also promised that the airline’s new brand image will not only the way its aircraft look inside and outside, but will also improve the overall passenger experience.

According to data available from the Federal Air Transport Agency, NordWind currently operates 10 aircraft: three Boeing 777-200s, three 737-800s, and four Airbus A321s. The airline says its entire fleet will receive the new livery eventually.

NordWind Airlines was founded in 2008; 95.1% of the carrier is owned by Pegas Ltd, a tour operator better known by its market name Pegas Touristik.

In the first two months of 2017 NordWind carried 256,000 passengers, twice as many as in the same period of last year. It currently ranks as Russia’s ninth largest airline by traffic.
