Sakhalin, Russia

I started to upload photos of Sakhalin to a thread [Rosja] ...te mniej znane miasta, because it is remote, exotic and interesting region of Russia.Few Russians were there ,and for Europeans, I suppose - Sakhalin is terra incognita.
In addition, a respected mateusz.el asked to tell me more about the region, not only about architecture.
Quote:
Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk -> Very interesting photos! If you have more photos, show them here

@Ross1967- Do you live in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk? Can you more write about this city and all island Sakhalin? About live there, cities, architecture, everyday life, job....and more.
So if you are interested in also the nature, history and the way people live of this island, then I'll start a new topic and in my free time, provide insight into Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands.

Is this possible to see Your photos of Sakhalin ( not only other photographers and internet postcards)? I guess You live there so i`m very interesting too see this place from Your perspective. But it looks like very pretty place anyway. And you`re right, for us (Europeans) it`s terra incognita.

http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showpo...&postcount=936

Later, I'll post them in this thread too.
First I want to tell you about the island, what I asked by mateusz.el about/
And here, I think it will correctly to use illustrative photos.

Brief information about the Sakhalin area you can see here:

https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sachalin

The more I try to tell you in their own words.
So, Sakhalin region is the only region of Russia, located entirely on islands - Sakhalin and many smaller islands -kurilskih.
Accordingly, it is available in two ways - by sea and air.
The first method - a ferry from Vanino to Kholmsk, which is necessary first of all carriers or for drivers.

The second way - as by plane is finitely more convenient and inexpensive.
Conventional flying is through Moscow or Khabarovsk.
Summer and holidays tickets are more expensive, but in the other seasons they are very cheap. I recently watched the price of booking sites and saw a return ticket for 8000 rubles. At the current rate is just over 100 euros. Therefore, those who are not afraid 8 hour flight and the difficulty of obtaining a Russian visa can easily get to us.
the third option is designed. Since the width of the Tatar Strait, which separates the mainland and an island in the narrowest point is only 8 km away, it is planned to build a bridge. But I do not think that this option is real soon. It is very expensive. It is necessary not only to build the bridge itself., But several hundred kilometers of access roads through the uninhabited taiga and mountains.
In Stalin's time was nearly completed tunnel across the strait, but after his death the building was abandoned.

Thanks for this thread
It would be great if you also yours own photos there show

Sakhalin is perhaps unpopular for tourists, yes?

^ Looks great, beutiful slope.

In my opinion build a new bridge isn't good idea. It's very, very cheap, and country doesn't have so much money...If I remember, Russia builds a new big bridge in Vladivostok.

I have my own photos Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, where I often visit, and another, a small town -Dolinsk. The quality is not very good - I am not a photographer. During the winter, I can probably go somewhere else for the weekend. But travel on Sakhalin I can only in the summer. Now and daylight is short and a snow is abundant . Trips are very difficult.
I'm a new man in Sakhalin, I live and work here since last summer.

On tour I did not find the statistics, but I think that the numbers are relatively modest. Tourism is available, but it is not mass tourism. There are a lot of quality hotels in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, but most of the guests in them, I believe - are businessmen and professionals.

Photos that you duplicate - it pictures ski resort "Mountain Air" It is very conveniently located. .From Any part of the city center, you can go to the ski lifts for 10 -30 minutes.
Illuminated slopes look very nice from anywhere in the city. For Example:

About the bridge, I agree with you completely .This project is too expensive for the island with a population of half a million people.

Another thing, if it can be built through the La Perouse Strait, which separates Japan and Sakhalin.

The connection with the mainland will be able to get State with another population and territory. But so far I have only heard talk about the energy bridge and pipeline

About the climate:
Sakhalin stretches from north to south for 900 km, so the climatic conditions in its extreme points are very different.
The northern part is very harsh - so little people live there.
South comfortable for life.
I as the Russian enjoy a long, snowy, but soft, quiet and sunny winter. Snowfalls are strong, but short - 1-2 days.

IMG_20150129_160205

Summer, though sweltering due to high humidity. The climate on Sakhalin is the marine, so the summer comes a month later and ends later -in October

The island's economy is built on two pillars-on gas production in the northern shelf.

and fish:

The population is mainly Russian. There are approximately 10% of Chinese. They are descendants of workers brought by the Japanese during World War II. I never noticed any national barriers. . I have never seen that children and young people were kept separate from each other. There are many mixed marriages. Accordingly culture Sakhalin very intricately combines with an Asian and Slavic features.

A few words about the level and quality of life. Salaries are high enough. According to the latest statistics, the average salary of Sakhalin about 66 thousand rubles. A lot of work in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and the North ,there gas are produced and constructed railway and a highway

There are also so-called "Northern benefits" for example early retirement in 50 years, salary increment of 50% after 5i years of work and free tickets for all the inhabitants of Sakhalin every 2 years.
Youth gets high enough subsidies for the purchase or construction of housing. There's also a program of resettlement out old and dilapidated housing.

Prices in shops than about one and a half times as compared to the Russian mainland. Products mainly Russian or South Korean. There is little Japanese goods, and they are expensive.

Unusual for a resident of the European part of Russia, I noticed aloe juice in assortment

The taste is very unexpected and pleasant.
Than the other inhabitants of the global world it is difficult to surprise.

Daily food for Europeans unusual. Sakhalin residents do eat a lot of kimchi, that is a specially marinated cabbage:

red caviar

fish

and some seafood such as squid or Kamchatka crabs

and several kinds of original salads, for example:

fern

or seaweed

From fast food are the most common pyanse .This is steam pies with meat, cabbage and peppers.

housing prices in the capital of the island - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk quite high and comparable with the prices of real estate near Moscow. Outside the city, prices are much lower and, therefore, there are many communities where young families can buy an apartment in exchange for a subsidy or where given free accommodation for the participants of resettlement programs. Such settlements look quite modest:

Rich people buy more comfortable accommodations.
For example in the residential complex "Strawberry Hills."

When I started to talk about the Sakhalin for the first time in this thread, I wrote that the island especially has attractive nature and started showing off her .but I write on Architecture and Construction Forum, and therefore i try to change the location of the sections. In the first place put a review of some constructed complexes. For a small town on the edge of the Earth and a population of 180 thousand people, I think it's very good.

But more popular observation point of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk is the peak of the mountain resort:
