Yes, they have land within the Fathima College premises (20 acres is enough to set up an Engineering college as per the new rules).

It will be great if Bishop Jerome Group of Institutions start higher educational colleges in Medical and Reserch fields as well. A Medical College can be a reality as they have hospitals like Holy Cross, Benzigar, etc.

Lets hope for more higher educational colleges from this group of institution named after the the first Bishop of Kollam.

Moreover, the Kollam Techno Park at Kundara is just 30 Kms away from this beautiful gateway town to the hill ranges.

Thank You, Ajith for the correction. NH - 183 should not terminate at Kotarakkara but should be extended to Trivandrum through the MC road passing through Kollam district.

Ajith, special thanks for the great and informative news that you provide to the relevant forums.

Reply to this point have already in some other forums too..
Anyway, once again....This is just a re-numbering of existing National Highways not a extension process..The NH - 183 will terminate near Kottarakara (NH - 744).As of now there is no NH stretch via Kottarakara to TVM.Once (if) the SH -1 is declared as NH your point is valid.

Rs.2.5-crore pre-concentration plant of KMML commissioned at Ponmana Anchmanakkal

KOLLAM: A pre-concentration plant of Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd. (KMML) was commissioned by N.R. Subramaniyam, Managing Director of the pubic-sector company, at Ponmana Anchmanakkal on Wednesday.

The Rs.2.5-crore plant is part of the company's programme to develop its mineral-separation unit.

The plant can process and separate minerals, at a less cost, from sand which has a lower concentration of mineral deposits. The machinery had been imported from South Africa. The company's employees completed the civil and electrical works in four months.

Sand obtained from the sea-washing process has a lower concentration of minerals and the mineral-separation procedure for such sand increases the production costs.

The plant has can process 75 tonnes of sand an hour. When run at this full capacity, the plant will increase the production capacity of the company's mineral-separation unit by 54,000 tonnes.

Rs.30-crore GIS to come up at the Power House complex in Kollam

KOLLAM: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan will lay the foundation stone for a 110-kV gas-insulated substation (GIS) here next week.

The Rs.30-crore GIS, as part of the Kerala State Electricity Board's measures to provide uninterrupted power supply to consumer, will be constructed on 15 cents of land on the Power House complex here.

The advantage of GIS is that it requires only one-tenth of the area required for a conventional substation. Underground cables from the Kavanad and Ayathil substations will feed GIS.

The construction of GIS is expected to be completed in a year's time.

Navjot, I would like to see Kollam rock 'n' shine in the near future especially with the upcoming projects like Kollam Techno Park, Kollam Cargo Port completion, Kollam Cashew Board and the MEMU Terminal. Kollam Cargo Port and Techno Park are the most important among them.

My contribution to Kollam thread will continue for ever. I would like to see more contribution from the localites in Kollam who are actually witnessing the daily activities and are informed with the daily news.

It would have been great if there was a Sai Krishna in our thread. Sai has great passion and superb vision about Kottayam. Really amazing young fellow. Love to see somebody like that in Kollam forum as well.

Navjot, you can play a great role in our Kollam thread just like Sai.
