NY Produce Exchange

Does anyone have any quality photos of the New York Produce Exchanges Building? The only ones I've seen are partials.

scalziand, great photos! I love recognizing the old buildings, some are harder than others!

But here's one photo that confuses me

where is this supposed to be?
it's got to be the hudson river, meaning this is a bridge over the harlem river, linking Inwood to the Bronx.
But it can't be it, it doesn't look like it at all

Can someone enlighten about the oldest picture of NY available for the public to see? Also, which is the oldest picture of New York that has been digitized till date?

Thanks!

wow, I could never have imagined it, the photo makes it look so different, and yet, all the same features are there!
I didn't know the area below was under water, although it all makes sense now.

I just bought a book today which is about 'Lost Buildings'.(Jonathan Glancey)...by war, demolition, disaster etc. The photos of Pennsylvania Railway Stn. on the site of Madison Square Garden Arena would make you weep....To think it was demolished just because a bigger buck could be made if it was replaced....guess that's the American way but see it helped start the movement to save significant buildings in NY and today this would not happen. Many wonderful architectural marvels were destroyed in Europe during WWII but some have been rebuilt to the original design. If any building in the USA deserves that I think the Penn. Stn. could. Even if not a complete rebuild.......anyone who likes SSC site would like this book I'm sure.

30s Style 3d City

Hi Folks,

I am following this thread for ages now and it is so great to see all this pictures of New York City.

As I am a fan of New York, especially of the old New York, I tried to build a fictional city, but much inspired by NY.

At the moment it is a chatworld, you can run around, meet friends, have a fistfight in the backyards, throw dice. For the future it is also planned to drive cars.

Reccently I added the possibilty to walk on the roof.

I hope this fits to this thread.

and here a screenshot:

I have some placeholder new style scrapers in, but I will remove them all in the future, just need to model old ones :-)

I hope you like it and maybe want to visit the city

Here is the link to it:

You need to have the shockwave plugin from adobe.

Actually most of those fatty boxes were built during the 50's and 60's. I roamed around the financial district at midnight during christmas eve and i actually found those buildings, I hated so much, to be pretty damn beautiful. I've always liked one ny plaza anyway but the building that struck me the most was one chase manhattan plaza. It's true it looks like shit in the skyline, atleast to me, but from below it's a masterpiece with its big plaza and well lit base. I still remember the time when I wished it's destruction but now, I'm glad it's landmarked. I'm still not sure about 55 water street, though. Anyway, buidings like these will never be built ever again thats for sure...

This is one chase manhattan plaza, incase no one knows...

Paterson Pic

Hi Messiah,

I'm wondering how I can go about obtaining permission to use the picture of the New York City skyline from Paterson in a documentary I'm producing? Do you know who owns the rights?

Thanks!
