Yeah, it looks cool. They could have two games running parallely. On the big field, Spartak professional team is playing the 1st Division game, on the second: the U-21 team or a 2nd Division team from Moscow. If Spartak has a bad day and is playing shit, people with a "double-ticket" have the option to move to the small stadium to watch the other game.

Tried to find construction pics of the stadium on the stadium website but unfortunately I don’t speak Russian so unsurprisingly found it difficult to find. So I was wondering if anyone can put up any construction pics up and does anyone have know when it will be finished?

They turned the first stone over a year ago but there was a big debate about capacity and progress since then has been minimal to none existent. There are other issues also politics, club issues and finance same old same old. Lets hope they start with a vengance sooner rather than later.

Either you are joking or you want to believe those Russians (and the whole world by extension) to be inspired by American stadiums (and American culture by extension). It looks nothing like Cowboys Stadium and it only shares the concept of roofs supported by arches with Qwest Field. But then again, from that perspective, is Qwest Field really that original? To me it bares more resemblances with Toyota Stadium and Estadio Da Luz.

There is a big problem with Spartak Stadium. Actually I know 2 major probs.
One of them is that new site is planned to be built on a deserted airfield in Moscow and the land in Moscow is extremely expensive even now, so as far as I know not all land ownership certificates are collected by Spartak. Second problem, is that near this future stadium is an unfinished metro station, that has been abandoned for more than 20 years. Moscow government tries to pursuade Spartak owner Leonid Fedoun (vice-president of Lukoil company) to fishish this metro station that will be named "Spartak Stadium". Spartak boss is not too happy about having to spend additional cash on this metro station, but they say that Moscow government will not approve construction of new stadium until this issue is sorted.
We, fans, expect to see some movement in terms of construction at the end of 2009.
I will keep you informed. By the way, Spartak is the "people's team in Russia", meaning that is a No.1 club in terms of titles in Russia and number of fans. You can feel free to ask questions about Spartak, stadium, Russian football and overall life in Russia.

What does the fans say about the capacity.
Is 42,000 ok or too small?
Looking at ZEnits 62k its a lil bit too small

I think Zenit is being very unwise here, because there is no way they can gather 62 thousand at every game. But Zenit is being sponsered by Russian state monopoly Gazprom, theese guys dont care about cost and investment efficiency: they will increase tariffs on gas for the population and make necessary revenue. This is not very fair, because all Russian people aren't Zenit fans, but this is the life here.

As for Spartak, the question about capacity has been raised several times by fans and media. Actually, as of today, the capacity has been decreased to 40k from 42k.

My personal opinion is, that 40k is minimum acceptable capacity for us, but not less. I'n not afraid i will miss any fixture in case tickets will be sold out, as I have a season ticket for all home matches. And we dont need to go stupid as Zenit either, bigger is not better, especially when you waste government(people's) money.
