That was a great thread that was closed for a stupid reason...apparently it went over a 500 post limit were vote for olympics 2012 is over 800

You can see how close the voting became once Foreigners began to vote...then someone closed it

No.

Tell me, why would a country rebuild a stadium when they have a perfectly good one with 75k capacity. They wouldnt whne they can redevelop.

The stadium recieved full redeveopment. It was stripped to its skeleton and totally remade. New Seating, new Screens, new Score Boards, new interiors and ofcousre the master peice thats the roof.
I understand you have something against OAKA, thats ok.
i understand.

, the entire feild and track was remade. Theres an underground level underneath the soil. The stadium has been made into a guiant artifical ocean, as well as a Rally track.

The stadium itself dates from 1982, the two tier structure is on its way out nowdays. It reminds me of Berlin olympic stadium before renovation. Athens stadium is nice but it cannot compete with Stade de France or new Wembley.

The New OAKA (Athens Olympic Sport Complex) was and still is one of the best Sport Complexes worldwide.

It includes:

- The Olympic Stadium
- The Olympic Velodrome
- The Olympic Indoor Hall
- The Olympic Aquatic Centre
- The Olympic Tennis Centre
- The Agora
- The Wall of the Nations
- The Antidoping Centre

As for the shape of OAKA..many people dont like because its just a bowl...Thats truth but it was designed to be a stadium with a great view from all the seats and great acoustic. All the nessecary insfracturues are at the west side and underground and these area is not visible. The design of OAKA from the first moment was the absolute simplicity and everybody see it now, when Calatrava added the beauty to the simplicity. And its at the top of the most tecnologically advanced stadiums due to the Olympic insfracture!

One of the best things about the redesign for me is that the roof's beauty is actually visable from within the stadium not only from the outside or above.

The old pics actually remind me alot of Dynamo Kiev's current stadium, I wonder if they are planning a similar redevolpment if Ukraine win euro 2012?

The stadium cannot compete with Stade de france or new Wembley? I personally believe that Stade de France is unispiring and actually put off IOC members to vote for Paris.New Wembley looks great but it is not finished yet and I still don't think that it is more beautiful than Athens Olympic Stadium.

I've been to the Athens Olympic Stadium and other European stadiums in UK and Germany and I think my judgement is quite objective. Athens Olympic Stadium is absolutely magnificent! It is simple and classy!

Great pics Savas!!!!

The stadium is ok. The roof is very nice. But I don't like the layout of the tiers. I think it's not up to date. Well ok, the stadium is old...
The Olympic facilities are really beautiful.
