I get depressed looking at that not only for the loss of Bunker Hill but the loss of all our streetcars. Damn, that was stupid as hell. You can see this thread in its entirety on the skyscraperpage forum too.

I second your comment.

The biggest loss is the enormous streetcar system we had, it was gigantic! Bigger than NY's.

It went down as far as Newport Beach and north to Ventura county, east to San Bernardino and Riverside.

Sensational thread. I'm currently going through a minor fascination with LA at the moment, similar to the one I had as a teenager after my second visit in 1988. Picked up an Thomas Guide LA/Orange County street directory a month or so back and have just watched "Jackie Brown" and "Pulp Fiction", both of course being set and filmed in LA and suburbs.

"Jackie Brown" is soooo under-rated. I love that movie.

p.d. I wonder what the purpose was of spelling "TOY" here at City Hall??

I love this shot!

Actually, unlike many American cities, Los Angeles still has lots and lots of it's old buildings left. Most are empty but a lot of them are, or have been converted into lofts and apartments.
