CPH | Copenhagen Airport

Here is some info on Copenhagen's Airport which is the busiest in Scandinavia and is a hub for Scandinavian Airlines, Norwegian Airlines, and recently Ryanair. Copenhagen Airport has two terminals, Terminals 2 and 3, which handle all flights and share a common airside passenger concourse as well as the arrivals section which houses customs and baggage claim and is physically located in Terminal 3. The newest section, CPH Go, dedicated to low-cost carriers opened in October 2010. So far, EasyJet, Transavia.com and Ryanair are the only airlines operating from this facility, which is accessed from Terminal 3. An all new Terminal 4 has been discussed, but replaced by plans to expand the current facilities in appropriate increments. The airport is also served by a few public transit options including the Copenhagen Metro and the Oresund Line which connects both Copenhagen and Malmo and Gothenburg in Sweden (both SJ and DSB serve the station as well).

Quote:
Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup (Danish: Københavns Lufthavn, Kastrup) or Copenhagen Airport (Danish: Københavns Lufthavn; IATA: CPH, ICAO: EKCH) is the main international airport serving Copenhagen, Denmark, the entire Zealand, the Øresund Region, and a large part of southern Sweden (not only Scania). It is the largest airport in the Nordic countries with 25.6 million passengers in 2014 and one of the oldest international airports in Europe. Furthermore, it is by far the busiest airport for international travel in Scandinavia.[3]

The airport is located on the island of Amager, just 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) south of Copenhagen city centre, and 24 kilometres (15 mi) west of Malmö city centre on the other side of the Øresund Bridge. The airport lies mainly in the municipality of Tårnby, with a small portion in neighbouring Dragør.

The airport is the main hub out of three used by Scandinavian Airlines and is also an operating base for Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia and Norwegian Air Shuttle. Copenhagen Airport handles 60 scheduled airlines and serves more than 62,000 passengers per day; 23.3 million passengers passed through the facility in 2012, making it the busiest airport in the Nordic countries, with a maximum capacity of 83 loadings/hour and with room for 108 aeroplanes. Unlike other Scandinavian airports, a considerable share of the airport's passengers are international. The domestic part of the annual passengers is lower than 10%. The airport is owned by Københavns Lufthavne, which also operates Roskilde Airport. The airport employs 1700 staff (excluding shops, restaurants etc.).[4]

Copenhagen Airport was originally called Kastrup Airport, since it is located in the small town of Kastrup, now a part of the Tårnby municipality. The formal name of the airport is still Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup, to distinguish it from Roskilde Airport, which formal name is Copenhagen Airport, Roskilde.

Norwegian Airlines is going to launch nonstop flights to Las Vegas and San Juan from Copenhagen beginning on 10 November 2015.

Norwegian Air launches Las Vegas, Caribbean flights

Quote:
[COPENHAGEN] Budget airline Norwegian Air Shuttle will launch new long-haul flights to Las Vegas, Puerto Rico and Saint Croix in the US Virgin Islands later this year, the company said on Tuesday.

The company will fly routes from Scandinavia and London.

Europe's third-biggest low cost carrier after Ryanair and easyJet has rapidly expanded into the long-haul business including the London to New York route, one of the most competitive routes in the world.

The expansion of Terminal 2 airside between pier A and B has begun.

It will create 4000 sqm of extra space in this very crowded space, 60% of all passengers passes through this area.

At the other end of the airport next to the CPH Go terminal they have started construction of the first stage of the new pier E, this will create over 20.000 sqm of extra space and 7 new gates.

No pictures has been taken from that place yet but I will use the CPH Go terminal in March so I will snap some pictures then.

The new central security area should be very close to completion by that time so hopefully I can take some pictures of that as well.

Here is the top 20 airlines in Copenhagen 2016.

If Ryanair keeps growing they could catch up with fellow low cost carrier Norwegian in 3-4 years time.

Its also funny to see that Qatar grows more than Emirates even though they have the A380 in daily operation.

Qatar flies double daily most days with the Boeing 787-800.
