Update thread on runway extension construction work?

I'm a big fan of BHX for its relative ease of use - so much less hassle than LHR (overcrowded) or Luton (traffic!) - its business and leisure routes and central position, and have tried for years to promote it locally in MK where of course we have a direct rail connection although I am forced to use a car if returning to BHX on a lateish flight in case of delays (oh that Virgin or London Midland would provide later night trains than 2320h - a mockery versus the service at a recent destination of mine via BHX, Munich).

I'm very interested in construction and have regular peeks at other projects such as the Leadenhall building ('The Cheesegrater') in London. I'd therefore be very interested to learn please if there are any plans for similar documentation to catalogue the construction works of the runway extension among local contributors to this thread or others via regular updates.

Thanxs for the posting, i too would be interested in this project and i need to get myself down there and take some photos for us to enjoy. I believe when the proper construction starts then we will see alot of updates, but at the moment its all about re-routing the A45 road so that they can start constructing the runway extension

SAS launches BHX-Stockholm

30 October 2012

SAS launches new route

SAS Scandinavian Airlines started its new direct route between Birmingham and Stockholm on Monday 29th October.

The daily flights to Stockholm will operate on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday using a 120-seater 737-600 aircraft. Prices start from £104, one-way including all taxes and charges.

Martyn Lloyd, Commercial Director for Birmingham Airport, said, “We’re delighted that SAS has recognised the need for services to Stockholm for Midlands’ business and leisure travellers and has taken the decision to expand its route network from Birmingham Airport. We look forward to welcoming passengers on the services this winter to Sweden’s wonderful capital city.”

So why not book now to enjoy a white Swedish Christmas with all the family? With no less than four different Christmas Markets, Stockholm, the ‘Venice of the North’, will keep you in the festive spirit for the whole holiday.

To book and to find out more about SAS destinations and fares visit www.flysas.co.

Let's hope QTR do not look on these latest figures unfavourably then.
BHX's geographical position in relation to both MAN & LHR is a distinct disadvantage.

The 2nd is correct, but the 1st looks photoshopped. There is some white lining around the tui 'smile' on the tail which suggests post-photo modification, and the blue on the engine cowlings, just doesn't look right at all. Definatley super-imposed, so not sure whats happened?!

Cheers.. The white cowlings certainly look far more superior than the blue thats for sure... No idea why anyone would photoshop the image...?
