There's another supertall proposal i'm very disappointed that construction never really begun.
The Center of India Tower aka Center of Vedic Science
Announced to have a final hight of 677m with 224 floors
Groundbreaking was in 2008. Location:
Katangi, Madhya Pradesh, India.

I really like it it seems to come out of an indiana jones movie, a great place for the final confrontation: indy vs. the big bad vedic priest (as variation of the second part: temple of doom)

I can solve this mystery , its actually a rather interesting building called 'Central Plaza One' from Australia's third largest city, Brisbane.

Known in Australia for its unique articulated window washing crown. Odd that its included, not that I'm complaining

I'm not often on this forum, but I do remember back in the day there was a project in Chicago for a tall tower, but all they did was dig the hole for the foundations and then it was cancelled. I think it was Calatrava who designed it?? I always think of it as the 'Chicago Hole'. Anyone know what's happened with the site?

The Illinois (AKA the mile high tower) was the first real conceived and proposed megatall. Now that materials and engineering technology would make it possible, wouldn't it be great if this tower were actually built? *dreams* I found these by while researching the original proposal by Wright:

You mean the Chicago Spire Tower (former known as Fordham Spire). Actually it was designed by Calatrava.

It's a shame that it was cancelled. There are many different proposals what to do with the hole. As far as i know no one suggests to build another supertall therebut on the other hand everything is better than this hole in the ground.

Yup, that's the one! Personally, I think the hole is pretty cool, and they should build a park around it with the edge of the hole forming the inner ring of an infinity pool that surrounds it. You could have a deep pool at the bottom, and a diving board over the edge...

Btw, what was the proposed location of the "The Illinois" in Chicago?

I really endorse this design and think it should be built, but not at a mile high. That would dwarf everything else in Chicago and would just ruin the skyline. It'd gradually need to go up. Something around 650m should be the maximum in the city for now. I mean, Sears Tower (Willis) is just 442m (the spire is at 527m).

I wonder about the design for the foundations of it actually? Was FLW just playing at aesthetics? I can't see such a foundation working... it seems far to narrow for its depth.

That said, it's an elegant design. Maybe it could be built somewhere outside the US? Or was it just a fantasy sketch?

I don't believe they wanted to cheat the public. In google earth i measured the diameter with around 32m. The tower is slim, so i don't see a reason why this would not have worked.

Where did you measure that exactly?
