Whether it's legal or not has nothing to do with graffiti being art. Spray painting your name on a wall is not art, but graffiti in post #18 most certainly is art.

those examples are the ones which i consider ugly. sadly there are too much around here... I know many beautiful graffities too, they are piece of art but unluckily authorities allow every kind of tagging even its illegal

What´s the difference between political and vulgar?

Is graffiti an art?

I guess so, on an adequate place.

Brighton Graffiti

The world famous Banksy has make his mark on Brighton, a piece that reflects Brighton as Englands gay capital. This piece is now so famous that it has perspex put over it! lol.

Some is really bad and just people trying to destroy
property but others is a work of art, it is truly amazing. I feel that there should be an outlet for these people, maybe not on proper art materials but maybe on buildings that want it or an area where they would like it like museums and art places and maybe some public houses and some nightclubs

Yes yes yes graffiti is art.

And I'm tired of people saying graffiti artist should clean up there act and paint in exhibits and legal walls. Because guess what...that's not graffiti. Graffiti is illegal and is also art.

Not all graffiti in public places can be beautiful and colorful and elaborate because of the risk of getting caught.

Legal graffiti is art, IMO. Illegal graffiti is something between art and vandalizing. It's OK where it fits. I love graffiti on abandoned buildings, old warehouses, ugly old walls etc. But I hate graffiti on everything else.

1% of it is art, 99% is shit.

Fines should be far more stronger, especially for those disgusting tags that ruin walls and take 10 seconds to do them.

Those who damage things like trains and so on, should be sent to prison.

You prolly think that only 1% is art because you've only seen 1% of graffiti which is normal for people. The graffiti in public areas and high traffic areas can look bad. But the really good graffiti is located in places not many people other than graffiti artists know about. Most people are only exposed to the quick tags.
Think of it like this: the easier it is to find the more toy it looks. The harder it is to find the better quality it is with more time spent on it which would be considered art.
