Love locks are too kitsch, yet a Queen Elizabeth II statue (Ma'am, bow, scrape, curtsy, shoe lick) isn't?

Can't see much harm in putting up a statue of the namesake of the development site. Would be more appropriate than honouring an anti-development protester.

I'd be disappointed to see a QE2 statue. We have enough statues around Perth area. I'd rather see some interactive art go up.

Have you guys seen the murals (can't think of a better word) that have been put up on the structures next to some of the stairways?

William Street which runs down one side of EQ was originally King William Street named after QEII's great great great uncle and husband of Adelaide.
The King bit has been dropped and origin of the street name is now obscure to general public which is a good thing and same will happen in time to EQ.

Plenty of King Williams remain in Sth Fremantle, Bayswater and Vic Park.

And if monarchists need a statue of QEII then place for it is in Kings Park by public subscription. Next to Queen Vic.

Finally got down to Lizzy Quay last night ...

Loved the Embargo pop up area got a great atmosphere ! My mates were commenting they should just keep that permanently rather than build highrise.

And of course obligatory Level 45 shot for the record books ...

Wasn't that impressed with the laser show but the area in general and city backdrop are awesome (y)

Out of interest, what do you all think should happen with Langley Park?

I was always in favour of the current quay project and think it looks amazing but, before the project was even started I thought Langley Park should be left alone as it provides a nice juxtaposition to the waterfront and the city, plus its playing fields get used fairly regularly, also because it was the sight of the first airport in Perth and so, had some historical context to it. Now since the quay has opened, I'm not so sure. I would love to see an air and space museum for example there or on the waterfront in East Perth commemorating what Langley Park started out as but also the contribution to space exploration that WA has played a part in, as well other aviation that could be showcased. Other activation through the park would also be nice to see or maybe removing the park altogether and bringing the waterfront up closer and having more apartments, restaurants, bars , attractions etc, (and an air and space museum! : ) through East Perth so that the whole of the city's waterfront is activated, from the Quay to the Causeway.

I think most of langley park should be turned into a more landscaped park with ponds, pathways trees etc. There's more grass there than necessary for use as sports ovals.

I wonder if Langley Park can be ever used for an air show again, I thought it was pretty neat and unique having planes landing right in front of the city. Once the land around EQ gets developed I guess that will pretty much be ruled out.

They would just have to land and take off in the same direction. To the east is clear.

It was still listed as an emergency airfield last I saw.
