I don't have the creativity to add an "alley cat" joke or pun to this thread, but one belongs here. Perhaps also referencing a woonerf cat.

Just looked through the pics again, side by side, original vs alternate plans.

I am convinced they are giving the finger to the city on the second, its kind of funny how crap they made the new design, its so bad that there is no way the city would pick the new one.

Exhibit A, they made the front lobby facing out the the alley that the city is trying to fight them on. Basicly saying "fuck you guys" you want the alley, here you go. Any development on the rest of the block other then surface parking basicly goes out the window.

Well played hedreen, well played...

I wouldn't mind letting them go higher and using the remaining plot for a park.

If an alley vaction is tough, I can only imagine trying to go above the 500' basic+bonus height!

Link isn't even to this project. Also, this design would be the result of the city's stupid decision to not grant an alley vacation. It's also been out for weeks, maybe months.

New packet. Same design as last time but more detail. Same materials as previous full block proposal.

Just so I am up to speed on this, this is the scaled back version right? This design is what is going to happen w/o the alley vacation and lot "B" is the surface parking. Now that the minimum wage fight is over if the city was using the alley as leverage what is their rationale for withholding the alley vacation. After reading the requirements to grant a vacation I sure do not see why it cannot be done.

I believe it has something to do with the proposed hotel not being unionized. Ideally that wouldn't affect a decision concerning alley vacations, but that's politics for you.

Developments like this will provide massive amounts of tax revenue for the city for decades to come if completed. To stop or reduce it is asinine...

If they build this project to the scaled-down plans it's not like we would end up with a parking lot there forever - instead we would get another tower on that quarter-block in a few years, and I personally think multiple smaller projects is better for the city than one huge monolithic one.

In general, I'd agree with you, in this instance, the larger project provides greater benefits to the city than the smaller project through increased revenue for the convention center, for it's ability to attract larger conventions, etc.

I think you meant this for the Fifth & Stewart thread.
