Yes, that's a different development, Byker Bridge housing Assoc will be constructing accomodation for their residents just 500mtrs north on Foundry Lane (under Byker Bridge).
I'd been responding to comments at the Igloo-Carillion 'Malings' development on the former Ice Factory site (between Byker bank and The Tyne oub). |

There are a few schemes lined up in the Ouseburn, some with affordable elements, some not. There'll be a decent mix over all.
That scheme on Foundry Lane - if it's the one I'm thinking of - is awful. |

. . . and hello Adrian Swall!
Yes, there are indeed earlier posts about these developments. I'm actually aquainted with the developers of both, but I am cautious not to breach any confidences and won't discuss finance. However, I will pop in here to correct a misapprehension if it's appropriate. By coincidence, contractors have been on both sites today. I nearly commented on your recent enquiry about the barrage, with which I'm also very conversant. I'll simply say here that it is fully working, but that the evidence base of its flood alleviation operation when designed was challenged by those intense wet episodes last year. I was at the barrage during some of that torrential rain making observations. Alterations to the mechanics and to the software have been made, but untill all are content that the risk of flooding has been managed adequately, then it remains held open. No one has forgotten about it! |

As I say, if this is the development I think it is I'm really disappointed in it architecturally. However I do hope that the provision of affordable/sheltered housing does get to go ahead. The Ouseburn offers a great opportunity to create a genuinely mixed community in a beautiful spot, with good links to the city centre and neighbouring areas/facilities.

Waymarkers
Had to smile at some wags idea to change the 10 green bottle art installation (part of Waymarkers by Lewis Robinson 2002) to 12 green and brown bottles. Situated above the preserved kilns and photographed 19th May 2013.

A stone crusher is doing its job, so no doubt the mounds will be shifted - looks a bit like a mini Ballast Hills. Noticed the other day that the archaeological dig had been concluded and the revealed kilns, roadway etc filled in. |
