So sorry to hear this news, what an exceptional 'dedicated to the cause' guy. Your photos will be remebered by all on here as the most daring we've seen. Its a shame you never got to climb the shard or pinnacle.

Condolences to his friends and family.

Gosh. Very tragic news. Met him on the Broadgate Tower tour a couple of years back and then for beers in the Elbow Room in Shoreditch. Very amiable chap, and passionate about the built environment and London's urban exploration scene. Unique methods for sure, but what results he reaped.

My thoughts are with his family.

RIP to Downfallen. He produced some of the most magnificent photography I have ever seen and by all accounts was a really great guy.

I send my condolences to his family.

Gutted to read the inevitable news after seeing today's banner

one of the best, original forumers on ssc. I hope his family knows that there are so many people on here and other internet forums who will miss him too

This is terrible news. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at Downfallen's pictures on here as they were always incredible and I'm sure were an inspiration to many of us.

R.I.P Downfallen, you'll be missed hugely.

It's really hard to articulate what actually goes through your mind when you hear of something like this. You don't really know the person, but you have experienced a part of their life through their words...and, in Downfallen's case, his pictures. I can't say that I was a friend or knew him well because I think most of his activity was while I was away from the forum, but I admired his work as much as anyone else. I hope that his family and friends can find some comfort in this holiday season in the fact that he provided so much joy to so many people, which is so apparent by this thread alone. I can't even begin to imagine their loss.

RIP Darren.

Saw the news on facebook, can't believe it. Saw him just 2 weeks ago.

At least he died doing what he loved. If that's any consolation. Rest in peace.

sorry but the banner changes at midnight... annoying isn't it but that's life. we even pulled the banner we were supposed to have on tuesday and replaced it with his which rather pissed off the algerians, or was it moroccans. if it's any consolation downfallen's banner has got the highest vote ever for a banner on SSC!

I haven't posted anything on this forums for a year although I never went away. I couldn't not comment on this very tragic news. A very sad loss, a unique contributer to these forums. He actually rarely said much in his posts. He didn't have to, his pictures said it all.
RIP darren and thank you very much for your fantastic pictures.

I only knew Darren through his contributions to this site - but what contributions they were! Not only were his photos jaw-droppingly stunning, but they captured the drama and mystery of a life lived on edge. In many ways an enigma (I didn't even know his proper name until yesterday), Darren's hooded exploits and devotion to his craft made him true folk hero to this online community. Darren clearly lived every day to the max and I count myself fortunate that his photos let me enjoy it along with him.

Our thoughts go out to his close friends and family at this difficult time.
