Snow in Australia

Thought I'd start a photo thread on the (mostly) very rare occurrence of snow fall in some parts of Australia, so start posting spectacular snow scenes Here are some parts where snow is guaranteed;

Mount Buller, VIC:

When I was in Katoomba I saw quite a few pictures of the place covered in snow. I think it snows there once every couple of years, and it isn't too far out of Sydney.

At about the same frequency Stanthorpe in Queensland gets snow. It always makes the Brisbane news when it does.

Katoomba

Usually it gets at least one snowfall a year.

Snow on the NSW Central Coast in 1965. It was a freak event.

There is actually a type of gum tree called Snowgums which are quite short and have a darker bark with a hint of jade green or rust brown in it. They're beautiful to see in the snow.

This wikipedia image gives a good idea on what it is: (src: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus_pauciflora )

They have even evolved to live with the snow as a regular habitat:
Quote:
Rather than losing its leaves in winter/autumn, the tree is evergreen, adapting to the weight of snow by progressively bending its branches so that the outermost branches extend vertically down and snow is shed from the leaves.

Such as contrast, white snow and lush greeneries.

Australia's a big place ...

Wild & woolly .. and maybe something else as well. Plenty of snow up there, even in summer.
