To be honest, they very well could. AD''s increasingly negative stance on Iran and it's allies could very well come back to bite them. Im not sure why AD is picking sides and not being diplomatic like they used to be, but I guess with new leadership comes new ideas and policies...

Hopefully this issue gets cleared up quickly. AD isn't affected by this decision but Dubai certainly is. Too much trade, business traffic, tourists between Qatar and Dubai, and on top of that, Dubai and Iran are huge trading partners.

Iran became an established oil producer when Obama (somewhat) lifted sanctions on them....though they refine most of it in India!! Naturally this was only bound to increase the animosity between KSA/AUH and its neighbor across the Gulf!!

There is also the fact that 3 of UAE's islands (2 of them belong to Sharjah and one RAK, am not sure about that one) have been under Iran's control...

Qatar has natural gas which they share with Iran in the world's largest gas field, not crude oil, so they could afford to be diplomatic....try to keep both sides happy...and now it has backfired for them!!

I just read that Iran impose a fee of $2000 for every flight using its airspace so no they would never do that.

All countries impose similar fees for using their airspace.

Over a period of six months to a year FZ have dropped out of Sulaimaniyah, Kandahar, Shimkent, Ufa, Novosibirsk, Nejran and Sakakah.

The Superjumbo Could get bigger, and EK is discussing this with Airbus.

Etihad leaving SFO....
http://www.reuters.com/article/us-et...-idUSKBN1951B4

On the other hand, if they flew to San Jose airport on the other side of the metro area in the heart of the Silicon Valley, they would have been still in business there!!

Most of the south Asian passengers have to pay huge taxi fares for a 50 minute ride to get to SFO airport while San Jose' airport is only a short drive away. Hence many fly domestic to Seattle or LAX and catch the long haul flight from there!!

I've always wondered by San Jose is a much smaller airport than SFO when it sits in the middle of Silicon Valley.

Air China, All Nippon Airways, Hainan Airlines, British Airways and Lufthansa have realized the locational advantage and have begun flights there in the last 2-3 years!!

I'm disappointed with the way the government has treated Qatar Airways. Shutting down offices so that they can't even give refunds is unfair and is hurting the brand QR has worked hard to build. And QR has generally had a good relationship with EK (not sure about EY). QR doesn't poach EK's staff, makes large orders at the Dubai airshow, and last year for the EK plane crash landing at DXB, QR tweeted a condolence message (along with other Gulf airlines), meanwhile EY remained silent.

Airplane start up boom says it already has 76 confirmed orders from 5 airlines for its supersonic jet. How likely is it that EK or EY are among them? Did anybody hear anything?

https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/20/bo...assenger-jets/

Recently they presented their project in Dubai
http://www.thenational.ae/business/a...ience-in-dubai

Apart from London as a possible destination also New York and Hongkong could be really interesting for EK with this jet …

Emirates and Flydubai May Be Merged Within 18 Months

Emirates President Tim Clark has said the airline’s owners are working bring the airline together with Flydubai under one unit in plans that could bear fruit within the next 18 months.

The move could open up slots for Emirates, said Clark and likely delay the move to Dubai World Central, Dubai’s second airport, to “sometime between 2026 to 2030,” he added.

they should have done that from the beginning i have said that before in 2009! as long as they don't contradict with each other, and name changing is not an option. they have worked so hard on the branding.

I guess they should keep the separate branding although I'm not sure if FlyDubai has a very strong brand or loyal customer base. I hope the merger means just more interlining of passengers between EK and FZ, and FZ continues to offer the same low prices they do now.

Sharjah Airport and Air Arabia are probably sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the turbulence in the neighboring skies!!
