Burrard and Alberni - 1934

I was a little confused at what angle this was as the Vancouver Archives lists the old photo as being Burrard and Georgia. But the old photo gives a glimpse of what parts of downtown Vancouver looked like in the '30s, which is a huge contrast to what it is like today. I believe this church was demolished when the building that's there now, the Burrard Building, was built. The Hotel Vancouver is seen in the background.

Boy, do these pics bring back memories of growing up in Vancouver in the 50's and 60's. I guess I'm at an age when nostalgia begins to set in...

First time I came to BC was in 1983. It was a lot more interesting and hip place than it is now.

Just discovered this thread. Very nice!

Growing up in Seattle, my family visited Vancouver starting in '67 all the way through the late 70's. The growth has been fantastic over the decades, as has been in Seattle, but in different ways. Seattle grew with office towers, and had some, but little residential tower growth. Vancouver seems to be the polar opposite. I will say Vancouver seemed more lively back then, and probably still so, today. Afterall, Vancouver is the glamour city of Canada, Seattle has never been that of the US.
