Is it finished? Will the walls stay like that?

How much is still left to do? I'll be there during the first days of June, any chance of it being open by then?

Yes, surely.
But electric wires are still not in place.

METRO/TRAMWAY - News

Trams keep their tests between Albolote and La Caleta.

Source: Cadena SER (14/Dec/2015, article in Spanish / INCLUDES VIDEO)

In the video above you can see one tram running wireless. I didn't remember they could do that.

Authorities now say that the first section (Albolote-La Caleta) could open by the end of 2016.

The problems are two:

-CAF is very late in the delivery of the trams (or more exactly, the Andalusian regional government is being very late at paying them ).

-Adif is also very late in the upgrade of Granada railway station, and without that, although the line could open till La Caleta, it wouldn't be open at full pelt.

That's surprising and not in a good way. I had an impression this project was almost finished already half a year ago...

The northern part of the line could have already opened. There are already enough trams to open it. Perhaps they prefer a complete opening of the whole line, as it would have a bigger impact.

But the main problem of course is the issue of the railway station. Basically it's a problem of two different administrations being at odds with each other. Granada's tram/light metro is a project of the Andalusian regional government (PSOE - Socialists), while the refurbishment of the railway station is a project of the Spanish government (PP - centre right). Besides, Granada has a mayor from PP, who basically opposes everything related to the project. Now he even opposes the project of railway station (approved by his own party!).

There is a considerable delay in the project of the railway station, and they've spent countless time fighting with each other about secondary issues (e.g. who should build a new parking lot), while the works where halted. Now it seems an agreement was reached, but the pace of the works is really slow.

Open doors at underground stations

Yesterday two of the three underground stations of the light metro system (Méndez Núñez and Recogidas) were opened to the public for visits. The opening of the whole system is now expected for September this year, but of course that date can change.
