Sagar theatre in Gandhinagar to be converted as a Mall and multiplex

Gandhinagar's most reputed theatre Sagar has stopped screening films and the theatre will be demolished soon.

There was news doing the rounds for a while that the theatre would be demolished to make way for a new mall. But the Chetan and Nithya Menen film Mynaa was running successfully in the theatre. However, once the film completed its 100-day run on Friday, Sagar stopped screening the film Monday, thus making Mynaa the last film to be screened there.

In the next two months, the theatre will be demolished and a new mall will come up with a multiplex in the same place and two screens will be dedicated to films.

Kempe Gowda Road, which was home to Sagar Theatre as well as Santosh, Nartaki and Bhumika, has seen all these theatres close down. Next year, there will be only one theatre on this road, which was known as the Broadway of Kannada films.

Very sad to see good theater s coming down. Majestic theater was also demolished but now that spave is just idle.
KFI should take measures to Retain single screen theatres. Death of single screen theatres in cities will keep people away from watching movies as multiplex ticket prices are very high. And screens are also small.
Happy thing is still kapali the biggest theatre in India still running.
Kapali, Tribhuvan, Santhosh, Bhumika, Abhinav will continue showing movies in KG Road and wont be demolished for another decade.

Bhumika will replace Sagar as main theatre for kannada movies from now.
Is there a necessity for so many malls...........?

The reason is these Big theaters will not be house full most of the days. So, if the divide the seats to various movies, they can attract more people and hence their revenue increases. To add up, there will be shops, which adds up to their well being.

Thribuvan, Kapali is not in KG Road. They are in SC Road along with Aparna, Movieland etc.

The first theater which I visited in Bangalore was Kapali back in 2006 and watched Omkara there..

And that was the first time I went to theater in my life..

instead of demolishing it & making it as malls then can be converted into 2 or 3 screen multiplex by altering it in the lines of theatres @ chennai .the popular single screen theatres @ chennai that were converted in multi screen theaters are
1.KAMALA THEATRE -VADAPALANI into KAMALA-1 & KAMALA-2
2.THEYAGARAJA-L.B.ROAD into S2 THEYAGARAJA( 2 SCREEN MULTIPLEX BY SATHYAM CHENNAI)
3.UDHAYAM 70MM A/C into UDHAYAM & MINI UDHAYAM
4.SHANTHI into SHANTHI & SAI SHANTHI(OWNED BY SIVAJI GANESHAN FAMILY)
5.ROYAL THEATRE -VILLIVAKAM into AGS CINEMAS -VILLIVAKAM(5 SCREEN MULTIPLEX)

these theatre are NOT located in malls but attract more crowd than the ones in the malls
