Today, being Tues 24/5... 22 in the core.. I'd say the taller of the cranes still has one more jump left.

Belconnen is such an odd place at the moment as it goes through its transition.

Probably the only place in Australia where you'll have an 88m apartment tower sharing a block with a bowling alley, suburban-style Mcdonalds, a church and a surface carpark.

The corebox will be coming down soon.

It's much stumpier than I expected it to look. It would have looked much better (more balanced) at the original 116m height.

And not only that, 27 levels has now become the height limit for Belco.

Really? Thats a shame. Its still pretty tall but what is the purpose of this high limit for belconnen? Surely its not based on the old 'height of the flagpole on parliament house' constraint. If I recall - that one only applied to buildings that had a line of sight to parliament house.

As for the wayfarer being more stumpy in real life - that explains the generous use of fish eye lenses for many of the promotional/progress photos.

Basically a bunch of NIMBYs complained about this building in its original form (116m) so the authorities dropped it to 88. I don't think they could justify allowing taller buildings on other sites after nerfing this one, so the recent Belconnen master plan set height limits based on the established precedent of this building.

There are about five or six sites across Belconnen approved for this height, so there'll be a definite height limit 'chopped' effect on the skyline once they're all built.

Nothing like Civic though, where the 617m height limit (base of Parliament House flagpole) is still in effect. At last count there were about 25 height limit buildings complete with another ten or so in the works. The place looks like a solid wall of buildings from some angles.

It's 79m according to the DA.

The ground level is 580m ahd, and it tops out at 659m.
