Fairscape Precint to revatilise Gaborone outlook

20 July, 2011
GABORONE - The Assistant Minister of Finance and Development Planning has described Fairsacpe Precint as a landmark development which will in future change the shape and outlook of Gaborone.
Officiating at the ground breaking ceremony of the Fairscape Precinct, Dr Gloria Somolokae said Fairscape Precinct will also usher to the fairgrounds a magnificent mixed use development of world standards.

Although fairgrounds has since transformed into a major office hub in Gaborone, it lacks a development which truly places it as an office location of international stature, she said.

Fairscape Precinct will be constructed in the fairgrounds area as a property development initiative of the Botswana Development Corporation (BDC) and its 100% subsidiary company, Commercial Holdings.

She said through BDCs vision, Fairscape Precinct will revitalise the area by offering prospective commercial and retail tenants with a world class mixed use property at a cost of P466 million.

Dr Somolekae said the development also contributes towards the growth and diversification of the economy of the country.

For her part, BDCs managing director, Ms Maria Nthebolan stated that the uniqueness of Fairsacpe Precint is derived from its five major design principles, which are mixed land use, central piazza, distinct architectural identity; streetscape character and environmental sustainability.

The development will also accommodate a 15 storey office tower to give Gaborone an architectural identity that cannot be over emphasised.

The project has also taken on board issues of environmental sensitivity and sustainability, Ms Nthebolan elaborated.

She said the development re-affirmed the corporations commitment in spearheading the countrys investment drive especially in property development.Fairscape Precinct will also feature rental office space measuring 18, 019 square meters, retail space measuring 1, 874 square meters, Penthouses covering 2, 063 Square meters and 884 car parking bays in the basement.

The total rentable space for the Fairscape Precint will be 21, 957 square meters with the main tower standing at 15 stories high making it one of the tallest buildings in in the Fairgrounds Area.BOPA corrections its 15 stories but the one tower is defiantly 16 to 17 stories

I like the color of the glass; I haven't seen that before. So glad to see the blue glass abandoned, we really overdid that the last few years.

The new Old Mutual headquarters in Sandton, Johannesburg called "Mutual Place" reminds me a lot of this development:

Great project... I'd like to see massing models of this tower.

Cross-bracing works nice on this one.

Gaborone must have a pretty nice little cluster of building popping up by now no? Ive seen more than a few projects posted in the past year.
