I'm not so sure that many people around the country even know where Buckhead is...

I think the entire South could use some help from a high-speed rail system.
We could use a hub in Atlanta going to Charlotte, Nashville, Birmingham. Birmingham's hub could go to Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans, and Memphis. Possibly Jacksonville but I'm not sure what the cost/benefit ratio would be there.
I do know that Birmingham needs some serious help on the mass transit side of things.

I feel like if we just had one more development downtown, we'd finally be a real, dense, bustling little city. Currently there's a lot of construction underway (and more talk from developers) but I still see blocks that are nothing but parking lot in our downtown area and I still see historic buildings sitting vacant.
I think right now is the time when an investor would get the most bang for his buck in downtown Birmingham because of the economy swing, the city gov't starting to be proactive for once, and the populace has been showing a lot of real concern for what goes on downtown.

^i think when all the parkside developments come online next year, that area is going to be bustling. hard to believe that neighborhood sprung out of literally nothing in 5 years.

What would cause you to make such an ignorant statement? There are PLENTY of other southern cities besides the ones you mentioned that are doing quite well, but you would need to have some knowledge outside of your little corner of the world to understand such a thing. So only the largest cities are successful? That's absurd.
