The order in which projects like this are put together is so important.

It seems it something very experimental.

It is known to be impossible to design a city. Cities are just evolution of many years of people settling and developing.

Does Masdar have a typical cell such as spanish urban cluster that involves Church, City Hall around a plaza?

I hope people begin living soon, it is almost spooky to have so much buildings with no use.

I have been there twice but everything is closed, i asked some of the students and securities personnel, they told me projects are not being shown to visitors here, my question is that what is the use of the projects being developed when no one can see except the personnel, students and masdar city staff.

I'm a project management student and will have a case study in Masdar City (Siemens HQ). I'm especially interested in scheduling of this building. Does anybody has an information about that?

Any timetable update as I was approached for a job and it was Dubai then Abu Dhabi with rumours they would relocate to Masdar when it was feasible.

New Abu Dhabi incubator launches in Masdar City

Krypto Labs aims to fund and support local and international start-up entrepreneurs both on-site and virtually

A new incubator went live in Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City on Tuesday as the capital ups its hunt for "the most promising" global innovators across all sectors.

Krypto Labs, an incubator and co-working space rolled into one, is spread across 2,600 square metres and offers IT resources such as 3D printing and on-site mentorship.

The venture capital enterprise aims to support local and international start-ups on site, as well as virtually, and said it will accept applications for funding “in various stages of development, in return for a negotiated investment in the projects”.

“Krypto Labs is a homegrown entrepreneurial ecosystem that will foster innovation and unearth some of the best and brightest ideas in the region and globally,” said Saleh Al Hashemi, the managing director at Krypto Labs.

Mr Al Hashemi said the incubator is associated with Abu Dhabi Financial Group (ADFG) an investment group with a global portfolio of more than US$6 billion.

"ADFG aims through its association with Krypto labs, to offer all major resources to support the national entrepreneurship growth and to invest knowledge, capital and time onto extraordinary entrepreneurs worldwide,” he said.

The company is the latest example of the UAE’s ambition to drive innovation in the Emirates and wider region by offering start-up entrepreneurs the opportunity to develop, test and modify their ideas.

Masdar City plans to add new mixed-use district

Six Construct wins contract to design and build Masdar Institute Neighbourhood

Six Construct, a subsidiary of the Belgian-based BESIX Group, has been awarded the contract to design and build a new project in Masdar City, Abu Dhabi’s sustainable city, called Masdar Institute Neighbourhood.

The project, which spans through 56,200 square metres is currently in the detail design phase, and will be completed in a period of 30 months, a statement said.

It added that Masdar Institute Neighbourhood is comprised of nine buildings, and will provide residential accommodation for Masdar Institute students, as well as provide corporate residences, and an office building.

Retail areas located within the buildings and public spaces, are also part of the scope of works.

“Sustainability of the development has been one of the important aspects in planning the facilities,” said Amin Nalouti, area manager for Six Construct.

Key features of the design to help achieve sustainability targets include climatic design to encourage wind movement and provide shaded external spaces to improve outdoor thermal comfort, high-performance building facades, efficient HVAC systems and user controls, as well as the application of building integrated renewable energy.

Installation of efficient water fixtures, as well as greywater recycling for irrigation use, including waste-segregation facilities to enable recycling, and low-embodied carbon material selection will form an integral part of the project.

“We believe that Masdar Institute Neighbourhood will definitely be a desirable residential standard for a sustainable and carefully designed community, and this project will certainly provide invaluable guidance to future development projects in the region,” added Nalouti.
