PRNJAVOR, the Banjaluka area, Srpska [BiH]

Prnjavor is small municipality near Banjaluka. Population is ~45.000, which is less for some 3.000 than before war. It's famous becoase it has a big Ukrainian population, and famous businessman - Dušanić is from Prnjavor. In these last few years many things were constructed and many people moved to Prnjavor. So, I think I won't make a mistake if I say it's one of the municipalities with biggest potential in Srpska, and whole Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A friend of mine in school was from Prnjavor. He was something like 3/4 Ukranian and 1/4 Polish, but 3rd generation in Yugoslavia/Bosnia. I believe many of these people were settled by Austro-Hungary between 1878-1914 in an attempt to Catholicize Bosnia. It gave Bosnia a little more multi-ethnic character, which is of course the only thing it needs

Prior to the war Prnjavor was 72% Serbian, 15% Muslim and 4% Croat. Perhaps there was about a thousand people identifying themselves as Ukranians in the city, so nothing significant. Austro-Hungary settled about 10,000 Catholic peasants from their lands in the Prnjavor area (including Italians, Germans, Hungarians, Czechs and Ukranians from Galicia who were part of the last wave). Most of the Austro-Hungarian settlers have been assimilated by now (usually amongst Croats because they share the same faith). Here's a picture of some remaning Ukranians in Prnjavor:
