All I was told was it was "sheikh project", and was told no more could be said. That could mean many things... Although since Google Maps has been updated recently for this area with new imagery, you can clearly see a small triangle of piling. So maybe it is “tribute” or “memorial” for Sheikh Zayed or something to do with the upcoming Zayed Museum. The large billboard on the corner does not do him justice. Not to mention that entire east perimeter of the EP has been barren just outside the wall for ages. It could definitely use some sprucing up...

At 105 storeys it couldn't not be 300+, unless it was designed for midgets.

Abu Dhabi's gov't offices will relocate to new city, says planning official

All UAE federal government offices and diplomatic missions in Abu Dhabi will have to move to Zayed City once it is ready, a senior government official has said.
The 45-square kilometre mega development is being built between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Mohammed bin Zayed City with the infrastructure work scheduled for completion in 2020.
This was already known many years ago under a different name - Capital District under the 2030 Plan.

I am surprised that many government offices were still built on-island even though it was already well publicized that this would happen. Although keeping government offices on-island would not only be more practical, but also more traditional of a capital city. I cannot imagine ADIA not in their current building, or for that matter MOFA.

I am in full favor of this system of Capital district, this will surely reduce traffic on roads, since most the government workers live in MBZ, Shamkha, Shakboot etc..

But the question is what will happen to all the current government office building..

Looks like they are staring construction. Some seawall blocks were recently delivered to the site:

City Centre Al Jazira

Source: http://www.constructionweekonline.co...-in-abu-dhabi/

Majid Al Futtaim officially broke ground on its latest retail and commercial venture, the $381m (AED1.4bn) City Centre Al Jazira, in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.

The developer has already appointed a contractor to move ahead with enabling works which are starting this month. The mall is scheduled to open by 2021.

The new mall will include 153 retail stores, a Carrefour Hypermarket, a Magic Planet family entertainment destination, a fitness centre, as well as indoor and alfresco dining choices.

Located between Airport Road and Al Muroor Road in the UAE capital, the mall’s total leasable area is expected to be 80,500m2 within a built-up area of 215,000m2.

City Centre Al Jazira will be Majid Al Futtaim’s first super-regional mall in Abu Dhabi, according to Ghaith Shocair, chief executive officer, Shopping Malls, Majid Al Futtaim – Properties.

The ground-breaking ceremony was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, Chairman of Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club, and Vice Chairman of the Honorary Authority.

The mall will be developed in cooperation with the Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club, who will support the project as investors and strategic partners.

Saeed Mohamed bin Butti Al Qubaisi, Chairman of Al Jazira Investment, the official investor of all Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club assets, said: "Al Jazira Sports and Cultural Club is a well-established name.

“We believe in empowering our community, and we are thrilled to partner with Majid Al Futtaim, which will allow us to have the opportunity to have a major role in building a new lifestyle destination in the heart of Abu Dhabi.”

Well, I guess AD needed a mall to fill the shopping void...

...between Al Wahada Mall and Mushrif Mall .

A popular Abu Dhabi landmark is about to get a makeover complete with a water park, outdoor sports hall and outdoor cinema.

The Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities recently unveiled plans for the renovation and enhancement of the Corniche with new features conducive to recreational and sporting activities.

The master plan will blend together elements of modern infrastructure, sustainability and a premium standard of living, particularly for those living around the area.

The project will be implemented in several stages, with phase one covering 78,000 square metres, starting from the Lagoon Beach and due for completion in March 2018.
