No freight on the lines in Perth apart from the tiny section between Fremantle port and Fremantle station.

And even that can be avoided by using the eastern track over the bridge as bi directional for the passenger trains.

The project essentially removes the contact point, because the ARTC lines will be to the west of what becomes the Gawler line all the way to Salisbury. Under normal operations there should be no conflicting movements left

Passenger lines are broad gauge and ARTC lines are standard gauge, so normal or otherwise there won't be conflict.

Come to think of it - isn't there freight on parts of the Outer Harbor line?

Others have mentioned Perth and Adelaide...Melbourne has the BG freights to Warrnambool, Waurn Ponds, Westall, Kilmore East, Tocumwal, Deniliquin, Piangil, Stony Point and Maryvale share some suburban trackage, the standard gauge destinations now and future will not.

Brisbane NG shares the major lines, SG does not at all.

Separate freight line altogether from Dry Creek to the north of Port Adelaide then swings north. The freight line does finish 500m or so from Outer Harbour passenger station, but the lines do not actually link through.

There is a connection between the two lines at Rosewater but AFAIK that is disused.

Until they built that new opening bridge a few years back there used to be freight using the Outer Harbor line between Port Adelaide and Glanville IIRC?

Rosewater loop has been disused since earlier this decade, last used for railcar transfers during shutdowns. Logically it would be getting used right now but it's not

The Outer Harbor line is closed until this underpass is finished, so no more crossing movements!

Update from 6:00pm tonight

KWS to Gawler Place/Kintore Avenue
The short bit of track has been encased in concrete. The Gawler Place/Kintore Avenue intersection has been filled in with asphalt, no tracks yet.

Gawler Place/Kintore Avenue to Pulteney Street
Track encased in concrete from Gawler Place/Kintore Avenue to Tiffany's, Track installed from Tiffany's to David Jones Car Park, only one track installed from David Jones Car Park to Pulteney Street. Could be due to the Urban Nest development.

No track on the Pulteney Street intersection.

Southern track ends here

Pulteney Street to Frome Street
Track installed from Pulteney Street to Freemasons building.

Frome Street to ORAH
No change

Meanwhile

Croydon Station is being completely rebuilt (Outer Harbor / Grange Line)

How did it get to be called Outer ‘Harbor’, rather than ‘Harbour’?

Mr Wiki fails on that front.

all the harbours in SA are spelt that way. It was before the distinction between American English and English was "formalised". A lot of stuff is still spelt with a u, eg Victor Harbour Station in Victor Harbor.

When I first read your post, I thought you were questioning why the name contained "Outer", since there's no suburb called "Inner Harbor"

Tram extension is coming along nicely, but I don't know why they're waiting until next year to do the intersection
