ROAM works everywhere too - I was able to use it on the Gateway Motorway when I was in Brisbane a couple of years ago.

There was a story on Nine News last night about the RTA looking at introducing signs on the motorways similar to those in Melbourne, which have estimated travel times.

And traffic updates in Melbourne always make mention of travel times eg 41 mins from xxx to xxx. I'd like to see that too.
It should make for smoother flow of traffic as well.

The proposal has come up a few times before but were rejected.

M2 commuters are going to love it - I can image the sign at Lane Cove Road saying "Pennant Hills Road - 30 minutes"

no, its so congested because for a vast swath of Sydney its the only expressway out of port botany/airport and people use it even if its not a direct route.

Once people tell the inner west nimbys to stfu the marrickville tunnel and m4East can get built. Then the M5 can revert to back to normal traffic levels.

The goat track that is known as Hoxton Park Road between Cowpasture Road and Whitfords Road will finally receive an upgrade, but work won't start until next year, according to the RTA website.

Some good news from the south. The resotration of Tom Uglys Bridge at Sylvania will finish at the end of this month - more than 2 years late!!!

I got a notice in my mailbox advising me that the roadworks on the northbound bridge which will include widening it back to three lanes will begin next Monday (15 March) until March 31 each night. New asphalt will be laid!!!

Not sure how I have missed this - apparently the M2 Motorway will undergo an upgrade. This will include widening of sections to 3 lanes (including the Norfolk Tunnel), plus new ramps at Windsor Rd and Herring Rd.

Could this project be a compromise in response to the cancellation of the NWRL???

Anyway, here is a link.

Not really - the road was dodgily widened westbound for the opening of the Lane Cove Tunnel. Apart from that there are extra interchanges that reflect the opening of the M7 and the increased development of the North-West as compared to, well, 1988 when the road was designed.

The road is not wholly widened to six lanes and the Harbour crossings constrain the overall maximum traffic volume, so it's not really a NW Railway substitute.

The Leura to Katoomba dual highway link opened on the weekend. $110 million dollars worth looks really good too and comes complete with views down into the Jamison Valley.

Next to be finished will be the Hazelbrook link. Already started as well is the Lawson upgrade and Wentworth Falls east will start in the next couple of months.

Not likely.

F5 upgrade seems to be progressing very quickly. Most of the median strip within Stage 1 (Brooks Rd to St Andrews Rd) has now been cleared. Seems to be moving faster than the Brooks Rd - M7 upgrade they did before.

Those stupid ditches in the road though keep forming under St Andrews Rd bridge. Hit one hard this morning as they are hard to avoid due to the narrow lanes. One formed just past where a massive chunk of the road disappeared a few weeks ago. They had to fix that one a couple of times as it kept coming back.

The Cowpasture Road upgrade at Horningsea Park is going well - the duplication is now pretty much complete, and traffic is now in a 1x1 formation on that side as they upgrade the original alignment which will be the southbound lanes.

As of yesterday morning, it was finally done. It took an extra month on top of what I was told.

There have been restirctions placed on trucks - they must use the middle lane. I saw a couple of trucks making lane changes yesterday on the approach to the bridge.

All trucks? or just those above the 4.4m(?) clearance in the outside lanes

Trucks above 4.5 metres need to use the middle lane.

... why tell people what they already know?
Even if there is a one off traffic incident, Sydney's congestion/geography means that there is hardly ever a genuine alternative route
