Vauxhall Cross looks like one of my dad's gaudy ties from the 1970s. Particularly ugly at street level.

Amongst all the exceptional high-rise architecture that has materialised / is materialising in London (One Blackfriars, Newfoundland Quay, Gherkin, Baltimore Wharf, 52 Lime Street), I'm wondering why the Hadid practice want to resurrect something resembling one of the modernist monstrosities that we're trying to forget?

I’m pretty sure the sale of the former property mostly funded construction, So it’s a pretty much a wash...

Also, why do they keep calling this a moat? It looks like a pond/pool... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are there any more such examples, where post-war blight is replaced with
new classical architecture, to regain and improve London's streetscapes?

Skanska and Multiplex eye £100m City fringe office job

http://www.constructionenquirer.com/...ge-office-job/

Quote:
Skanska and Multiplex are battling it out to take the next big build contract for a major office scheme on London’s City fringe.

Dublin developer Aldgate Developments is pushing ahead with plans to build a 320,000 sq ft office scheme known as One Braham next to Aldgate East tube station.

The 18-storey project is expected to cost around £100m to build and is the second phase of the developer’s redevelopment plans in the area following construction of the 17-storey Aldgate Tower project several years ago by Multiplex.

http://www.constructionenquirer.com/...n-health-deal/

Quote:
Kier has been appointed to deliver a £136m pipeline of works across the London North West Healthcare NHS Trust’s estate.

Procured through the P22 framework, the contract will see Kier deliver several schemes for the Trust, starting with an update of its estates strategy and site master plans across all sites.

The scope of works includes new operating theatres and improvements to existing theatres as well as refurbishments to critical care and outpatients departments.

Lewis Parker, Kier health director, said: “We’re extremely pleased to have been appointed to deliver this programme of works for the London North West Healthcare NHS Trust.

“As one of the busiest Trusts in London, these works will allow it to continue offering high-quality care to residents whilst also being able to cope with increased capacity.

Audley Square House in Mayfair is another good example.

Ardmore wins £77m Stratford hotel contract

http://www.constructionenquirer.com/...otel-contract/

Quote:
Ardmore has landed a £77m contract to deliver a major new hotel scheme in Stratford.

The contractor has just started preparations on site at the Gantry development which includes a 285 bedroom hotel over 18-storeys by Hilton Curio and a 136 room longstay hotel over 17-storeys by Adagio.

The lower levels will be occupied by new bars and restaurants with a new sky-bar on the 18th floor.

Formerly known as Plot N17 of the Stratford City Masterplan, the Gantry will be constructed on a vacant plot next to Stratford International Station, sitting between the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Westfield shopping centre and East Village.

Ardmore will start constructing the single-story basement in Q1 2018, before constructing the high-rise concrete frame.

Green light for 1,300 homes at Nestlé factory

http://www.constructionenquirer.com/...estle-factory/

Quote:
Planners have given the green light to plan for a major mixed-use residential and light industry scheme at the former Nestlé factory near Heathrow Airport.

Barratt London will deliver around 1,300 new homes on Hayes site while developer SEGRO will deliver 230,000 sq ft of modern light industrial space.

There are three hectares of new public spaces, including a public plaza at the heart of the development, named after Eugen Sandow, the man who built the factory in 1913.

There will also be improvements made to the local road junctions including the Bulls Bridge Roundabout.
