Are you sure?? I think you are talking of new year 2010. I am dead sure the mall opened in 2010 in a full fledged manner.
Simpark mall is just a mall by name as given by our "educated" corporation. See a mall has to fulfill several criteria for it to be categorised as a mall. otherwise it may be a shopping centre, commercial complex or market, whatever way you call it. Simpark is far far off from being a shopping centre, forget about being a mall.

Still under construction. A billboard in front says "Opening Soon".
It 's been 5 years now since construction started in 2006. Probably has hit some roadblocks with shopkeepers & unions. You see, this is the difference between building an absolutely new mall in an empty land & converting an old market, filled with shops & stalls, to new mall.

Malls like Forum Courtyard, City Centre NewTown & Axis Mall were announced in 2007, later than Lake Mall, but have already been launched in 2010. There is particularly some problem with this, I guess.
My guess is that in between there were some problems with market Unions / shopowners as to their proper relocation. This is the headache when you try to convert something old (that too a busy market) to new. But seeing the recent pace (about 80% complete), I feel we might be in for a year end opening.
By the way the mall is looking quite swanky. Will try to post a pic soon.

Upcoming:

DLF Galleria, New Town, AAI
Downtown, New Town, AA III
AMP Baisakhi, Salt Lake

Operational:

La Viva, Salt Lake (Big Bazar occupies 80% of the area, the rest being covered by a multiplex and few small food joints)
Nice. La Viva opened, I guess, around the new year time.
Is AMP Baisakhi a full fledged mall?? I had seen billboards that it was marketed as a commercial complex.

Excellent work there samrat. But after the shutdown of the giant IMAX screen in Mani Square,it is now a regular 2D screen, hence change it to 4 screen.
Also Bioscope in Axis Mall is 4 screen, not 6 screen.

Yes m damn sure, cuz m a muvi buff, and watch the movies regularly in plexes, and have visited all the plexes expect Broadway and Bioscope!!....mostly the plex that we have in Kol, are 4 screen except at Fame, South City Mall, which has 6 screen!!

The plex competition in Kol is very low, with only 2 big players...we still dont have DT Cinemas, PVR and Fun Republic!!

While i was in Del, used to see movies in PVR only!!

Hope that PVR would come soon to Kolkata!!....:)

hmm....i guess DT might be coming this time @ DLF Galleria, cuz DT is of DLF group!!..So hope a6e!!

actually PVR's price fluctuates from place to place, lyk, in Del, rate at PVR CP is 120 bucks while at Saket its 100....all night show rates, between dushera and diwali 2010...same goes for Kol...

Fame SC mall's rate for Ready was 170-190, while at Hiland park it was 120-150!!
