R e y k j a v Ý k , I c e l a nd (Must see thread) July 16th, 2005 today taken

Here are some recent pics I have taken. ReykjavÝk has a population of 180,000 (metro) and it feels like there are 1 million people. The city is very spread out (luckily it has a dense urban core) and has many suburbs. It is a very noticeable blend of American and European influences. I decided to show a lot of panoramas, etc.

My favorite club in ReykjavÝk, NASA...so much fun. Reykjavik has a famed nightlife. For a city of its size, there are about 30 clubs/bars which is pretty damn impressive.

Downtown street, Laugavegur

Just before people are going out to party...after work hours.

Packed sidewalks...

Typical Saturday night

Kˇpavogur, suburb of Reykjavik (25,000 people)

Kˇpavogur, Hafnafj÷rur 2 largest suburbs of ReykjavÝk

Breiholt, suburb of ReykjavÝk

Ugly commieblocks post WWII

Getting into the old city of Reykjavik

Downtown in the far distance

A different angle, taken from Kˇpavogur, looking downtown

Inside Kringland, a downtown shopping mall, just to prove that YES, Iceland is a modern country with shopping malls, etc

Ugly commieblocks - hey, at least they have color!

The "ghetto" known as Breiholt. Bad shape in some suburbs

Fjord outside RVK

Downtown

Old town

Brand new towers downtown

Tower district

An old residential street

Quiet Sunday

One of the many highways that run through the city

9pm downtown street

From my apartment

These aren't mine below:

70% of Reykjavikurs live in apartments

Note, Iceland can't have any buildings taller than 14 floors because the fire department isn't big enough apparently! :P

Enjoy! Leave a comment, too!

It seems very cool - I would love to go there. It doesn't look like a 1 million city though.
